time wasters

“i spent most of thursday afternoon sorting through games at brighton rec. it took me almost two hours, and a majority of that time was spent doing the random puzzles. i hate puzzles! i tried to do most of them, to see if all the pieces were there, but i would end up too frustrated, so i just did as much as i could and then assumed they had all the pieces. i have no patience for puzzles, i swear.”

“uh, lan? why didn’t you just count how many pieces were in the box?”

*awkward silence*

“so, let’s not tell anyone about this, eh stabby?”

5 things that have made me extremely happy lately:

(1) the brothers bloom! i finally saw it tonight with carly and kate, and OMG, it’s amazing.

(2) riding my bike.

(3) i have seen star trek SIX times at the theater.

(4) my meds are working! i’ve spent the last few weeks much less anxious and lacking the running thoughts i was plagued with. it’s glorious, and pro’ly why i’m in such a chipper mood as of late ; )

general work updates

FRES
eight days left! i’ve been having a blast, but it will be nice to start summer camp and work a full day for a change, lol. i’m going to miss all the kids though!

BRI. REC.
today becky and i set up a booth at the brighton farmer’s market, to see if we could get some people to register for programs, and to hand out free popcorn. we weren’t sure how many people visit the market, but we thought it was worth a shot. becky had me do face painting for the kids, so the parents would have to stop and talk to becky while they waited. brilliant, we know. lol. it’s amazing to see how excited kids can get about shoddy painting and free popcorn ; )

i even met a few kids that will be coming to FRES camp this summer, which i’m getting more and more excited about every day. i can’t believe i’m going to be running an entire summer camp! it’s craziness.

oh, and the week of geocaching is complete! the kids absolutely adored it, and i’m working on designing a program that parents and children can sign up for to learn the basics of geocaching. i’m excited : )

kid geocachers!

IMG_5394

they found their first geocache! ♥

all six of them absolutely loved searching for the cache and talked a mile a minute about it afterwards, even convincing several other kids to sign up too. the new cachers thought using the GPS was “the coolest thing ever” and that finding the final cache was “totally awesome.” every single one asked for the geocaching website URL so they could convince their parents to let them find more caches, and they made me promise to hide another one for them as soon as i can. hahaha, i said maybe during the next school year ; )

question for bicyclists

is it possible to hurt your hand by just biking? i have a painful sore spot between my thumb and index finger. it seems likely that it is related to my recent acquisition of biking as a hobby. i’m not sure if there is anything to be done about it, if it is. any ideas?

bike rodeo

the bike rodeo yesterday was officially the cutest thing ever. i’m used to having kids run up to me to say hi, but imagine having kids riding their bikes up to you, and you aren’t exactly sure if they know how to use their brakes. lol.

i led the short tour for the kid group (the long tour was 15 miles, and for adults only obviously) and took them for a bike ride on the canal path to lock #33. a big pack of little kids on bikes is apparently a sight to see, because it made the people that passed us smile and many mentioned how cute it all was.

when we went under a bridge i said to yell because it echoes, so they all yelled “ECHO! ECHO!” and were basically obsessed with this fact for the rest of the bike ride. hahaha.

after realizing that after a mile and a half they were basically burnt out, we turned back, going a lot slower. though i had to be sure i was always in the fourth position, because there were three boys that wanted to go “really fast!” and i didn’t want to ruin their pretend race ; )

all in all, good day for sure. ♥

fun fact: i actually won my current bicycle (that i’ve had for 10+ years) in the raffle they have at the end of the bike rodeo. it was a bit too big for me then, but it’s perfect now : )
