Ikes, my keyboard drawer thing finally just fell off and I’m typing this with the keyboard akwardly on my lap and my mouse on the desk and my knee is holding up the drawer so it doesn’t fall off more. I hate the darn thing.
Oh yah, I’m back. But just for the night, I’m off again tomorrow for a guareenteed 2 weeks. The week’s been pretty awesome.
At camp they put us in the CIT (counselor in training) group. The girls are mostly all 16 or 17. Lizzie and I are the youngest. It’s not that bad though. It’s actually great. My conselor is Curls, she’s really nice and really funny. My tent mate is Alicia, and Liz of course. Next week we are supposed to get new tents, but I like Alicia. The other girls are nice and all, but they have different, uh, priorities. Those are the 16 and 17 year olds. Alicia is 15, almost 16.
I had are pretty dandy time, I won’t bore you with the details. Maybe just a few main things that I just want to remember when I look back later.
Kids (especially the young ones) seem to like me. It suprises me that I can make friends pretty fast. On the first day I was already friends with Alicia.
I really don’t want a camp name. All the staff needs a camp name, but I don’t want one. I like my name. They want to call me Mac, because I like iMacs, but I don’t want a nickname. I like mine.
We have to write in a journal all summer about what we did. I’m really dreading it.
Next week we are going prim. That’s primitive camping. No lighters, showers, or latrines. That’s right, no latrines. We have to dig our own. This is going to be awful.
Next week is also movie week and we are supposed to bring our favorite VHS tapes. I still haven’t decided what to take.
I have to go back to camp tomorrow morning.
A girl name Journey is in our camp all summer. She’s 9 but has only in 2nd grade and has the intelligence of a 2nd grader. She lived in Guatamala when she was born but she was abandoned and picked up and abandoned a few more times. Now she’s in the US with a family and is going to camp with money from the state or something. She doesn’t follow directions and is a handful. But she latches on to everyone. Today at lunch a girl asked her about a scar on her chin. Journey said her grandma bit her. I was taken back by that. She said she was abducted. I didn’t know what to say. I don’t usually deal with things like that. Alicia was smart and when another girl asked Journey more about she said that maybe Journey didn’t want to talk about it. And she didn’t.
I’m very proud of myself right now. We went on the ropes course once and I was to scared but the second time I tried the low ropes, except for the wall of course. That’s just too high for me.
Today Abby and Ranger Mike took the CIT’s stuff to another unit and Abby asked for people to walk down to help unload it at the other unit. I was the only one that went. My reward was a nice cold can of pop. Being helpful pays, it does.
I finally saw the inside of the cook’s cabin today when Red invited me in after I helped her carry the garbage down and empty the coolers. The kitchen staff is awesome, especially Red and Tina. My mom is friends with them too. Tina gives us extra cookies.
It rained during the cookout but Curls, Alicia (Torch), and I kept the fire going and the food hot. To show our commitment to the flames, a charcoal smear under our left eyes.
We made a sign that said “Just Married” and Alicia and I snuck outside and put it on the back of the gator along with cans attached to the bumper. This was because the Admin staff (Kim and Abby) ALWAYS rides EVERYWHERE in it.
Another CIT named Alyssa brought this cow flashlight that moos when you push a button. I want one, they have them at Toys R Us.
On Crazy Hair Day, a conselor named Skuirrel did my hair like Einstein. She used a TON of hairspray and then sprayed blue streaks in it. It was awesome, I wish I had a picture.
One day we were supposed to go camping but it rained. Instead we camped in West Wind unit which is really secluded from the rest of the camp and the 8 of us (my mom was there) slept in one tent on the floor.
The next morning we had flag AND we had to hop for breakfast. That was because it was pick on CIT’s week.
I had a few girls that followed me everywhere and always wanted to be my buddy. It was cute.
I got a piece of mail for Chelsea, yay! I have to send her a letter back.
My mom (Schlitz) brought her rubber ducks and of course the big one got stolen. Kim hung it from the flag pole once!
I taught the camp my version of The Princess Pat. Mine includes a lot of jumping and is much better. I think I learned it at Gorham.
We were extra exuberent during closing campfire and the CIT’s sang more songs then everyone. I even led a few. We wrote a song too:
The 12 days of camp (you know the tune):
On the first day of camp this is what we did: mooed the cow.
On the second day of camp this is what we did: vandalized the gator.
On the third day of camp this is what we did: couldn’t start a fire.
On the 4th day of camp this is what we did: stuffed Rosie [the raccoon] in the mailbox.
On the 5th day of camp this is what we did: stole Schlitz’s duck.
On the 6th day of camp this is what we did: plastered our faces.
On the 7th day of camp this is what we did: slept with the bugs.
On the 8th day of camp this is what we did: did our hair real crazy.
On the 9th day of camp this is what we did: pulled a prank on Curls.
On the 10th day of camp this is what we did: got picked on all week.
On the 11th day of camp this is what we did: woke up late for flag.
On the 12th day of camp this is what we did: wrote this song together.
After reading that over, I noticed that I left nothing out, I put in every important detail. Opps.
