today in chem we had “dem-o-rama,” which is pretty much a lab, but without the actual lab. porta just did a bunch of demos for us and we balanced the equations. i was pysched for today, since he told us we’d be doing the best demo of the entire year. and it was. here’s how it went: porta tells us it’s time for the “mephane bubbles” demo, the demo supremo. since my table (which i share with allison, dasiy, and larissa) is in the middle of the room, he put this odd contraption on our table and proceeded to hook up a tube to the methane gas, but a bunch of green liquid got everywhere. it turns out it was just soap (and hydroglycerin), luckily. so then he turned on the gas, and this tub of soap and hydroglycerin started bubbling. then mr. porta stuck his hand in it, covered his hands in bubbles, and LIT IT ON FIRE. his whole hand was engulfed in flames for a few seconds, and then it went out. it was so freaking sweet! so when he asked for volunteers, i so called going first. so i grabbed me some bubbles, stuck my hand into the air, and porta light it on fire. it just got hot, it didn’t hurt at all! although i am currently missing some knuckle hair… in short, it was indeed the best lab ever.
i finally picked my topic for my 2-4 minute project in video. EXTREME IRONING (check out the wikipedia link to exteme ironing for details). stabby, chels, and i were in barnes and noble looking at calanders when we saw an extreme ironing one, and at that moment i decided that just maybe extreme ironing would be my sport. so my friends and i are going to give it a whirl, on camera. but my mom said no roofs. since it’s winter. and she thinks we’ll die. so, if you have any good ideas for extreme ironing locations, preferably that you know i have access to (hey you brightonians!), let me know!
