i can dig it

i have to say, our chorus concert tonight wasn’t really that good. our songs were boring, not very well memorized, and just plain lame. the solos just weren’t up to standards. although it was nice that they gave us the whole balcony instead of a section by the pit, since we could actually talk then. and afterwards i got a high 5 from berg, which rocked.

–”aw man, you already put the pop away?”
–”yes, but i set aside this dr pepper for you in the cooler, since you get one every day.”
–”oh man you are so awesome.”

not only does that dialogue show how addicted i am to dr pepper, it also shows how much i overuse the word “man” in my daily life. seriously man, it seems to slip in to my conversations almost all the time. that and the phrase “i can dig it.” that needs to stop. as liz says, “lan, you have dug too far.”

da na na ah

whoa, you guys remember that magic trick/dance/song jesus does in stewie griffin: the untold story? liz and i have perfected it. unfortunetly, the song has gotten on the nerves of my parents and we are banned from practicing it around them. but if you want to see, just ask. perhaps i’ll even post a video. who knows.

oh em gee it’s not monday!
4 day week = perfect

x-men

oh my god. x-men 3. saw it today, and let me just say more happened than i expected. way more. although i still really enjoyed it. if you go see it, stay for the credits, there’s a little something afterwards. after i watched it i let out a really loud “WHAT?” right in the middle of the stunned silence that filled the theater. it was that amazing.

wow

i seemed to have fallen alseep on the floor last night, for i woke up near my desk this morning around 7. i’m pretty sure i fell asleep at like 10 without meaning to, ’cause i don’t remember much happening then.

today we weeded the front yard, and after 4 hours, we’re about 1/5 done. my dad took out a huge bush in the front, and now our yard looks so empty. liz took out another smaller one near the side, which doesn’t help either. our gardens are 95% weeds, so they’re going to be pretty darn stark once we’re finished.

springfest 2006

today was springfest! that means no classes. and we get to hang around all day. it was awesome. my dad drove liz and i to school because he didn’t have work (which was awesome, i didn’t have to get up until 7) and i went right to homeroom, no waiting around for an hour, like i have to when i ride the bus. the first activity was the student council speeches in the auditorium. ruben land, that guy with the british accent who walks with a cane (hurt himself recently). i voted for him, it’s all good.

after that we went and listened to this speaker who also did juggling and magic tricks, he was on jay leno once. he did this horrible trick where his partner took his shoes off, and the speaker stood on this shoulders, and the partner walked onto a pile of broken glass (!) while the speaker juggled 3 machetes. i almost cried. i had my hands over my mouth, and was probably screaming, it was kinda hard to hear over the screaming coming from other girls.

well after that was the knowledge bowl, which is a trivia contest where the students battle the faculty. we actually won this year. it was amazing. after this they let us loose until 1:30pm. dinah, michaela and i got springfest t-shirts and our yearbooks. then we headed to the cafeteria. you see, it rained all day and springfest had to be held indoors. this was awful. seems the air conditioning broke or something. very hot. very humid. but anyways, we ate lunch and dinah and i lost michaela somewhere, so we went to dine’s locker, where we played with the frisbee i stole from michaela (a dinky free thing she got that says mcc on it). mr. hall didn’t seem to approve when he walked past to a secret dance practice (which i was discuss later). “uh, i dropped this here frisbee mr. hall.”

we ended up listening to some bands play for awhile (after managing to get my newly found frisbee confiscated after i threw it off the balcony onto the stage). we decided to sneak out to rite aid to pass the time. we read greeting cards for like ever, after michaela found us (turns out she was coming back, whoops). i got some dr pepper, we went back to school, et cetera.

okay, now for that mention of the secret dance. you see, the last event of springfest is the faculty talent show. there were some pretty good or funny acts, but the best was both good and funny. mr. porta, mr. bonadona, mr. vick, and mr. hall choreographed possibly the best dance ever. it was all in sync and generally awesome. some of the moves they did were simply priceless. they picked mr. porta up, they ran in circles, they snapped, it was amazing. it totally made my springfest awesome.

towel day

during a discussion in chem lab…
mr. porta: actually, i am slightly color-blind. there’s this one shade of green i can’t see. it’s so weird. i bought this towel for my apartment, and i said to my girlfriend, “hey, can you hand me that gray towel?” and she was like, “you mean this green one?” she swore that it was green, but it was totally gray to me.
class: bring it in!
mr. porta: fine, i will if i can remember.

3 months later…
mr. porta: hey guys, guess what i brought in today… the towel! lemme go get it.
*goes to office and gets towel and walks back in*
class: uh, we hate to break this to you mr. porta, but that towel is gray.

the weirdest part about this? it’s towel day! what were the chances that he’d bring the towel in on towel day? the probability was pretty low, it seems. if you were wondering, i had a small dish towel in my backpack. it has rabbits on it.

“a towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have.”

is this tale it?

man, i forgot what happened. hmm. oh yes, it was a day five today (don’t forget that i’m actually writing this on thursday, i lost the post last night). but i didn’t remember that until after i woke up, so i thought, late. yada yada school yada yada stuff. oh, and then mentoring club. we made invitations for our pizza party next week. mrs. o’brien and becky also said that jiggy and i would be co-leaders next year, which is a little freaky. i’m not good at talking in front of groups. although i am pretty organized, so that’ll be good.

curls and i went to see the danvinci code later, my second time obviously. i think i liked it more this time, like the guy in the paper that rated it a 7 the first time he saw it and an 8 the next. yeah, like that.

if you didn’t notice, the title is an anagram for “this is a title.” pretty crafty, eh? i thought it would fit in nicely with my mention of the davinci code.

oh em gee

oh em gee oh em gee oh em gee. did anyone else watch house tonight? it was amazing. i mean, a hallucination inside a hallucination is cool enough, but top that off with both of the hallucinations being a hallucination, well that’s awesome.

i shot a 16 in phys. ed. today. 6 holes, all 3 par (except one, the 4 par). granted, we did not count the numerous swings i took without actually hitting the ball, but you know. sam shot a 14 and marie a 16 like me. we’re awesome.

my bad

dude, total mistake doing all my guided readings this weekend. it was day 3. that means american (land of the guided readings), 3 frees, chem lab, math, and another free. so i had absol-freaking-nothing to do. luckily i armed myself with several hard-level sukodu puzzles 2nd period. they were delicioius.

totally on a atom and his package kick, thanks to some guy over on last.fm, who sent me many-a aahp cd. i can dig this.

lilac shmilac

liz decided at 6:45 that she wanted to go to the lilac festival so she could see teddy geiger perform at 7. i despise him, but i said i’d go. after i overcomplained, she said she didn’t want to go anymore:

mom: liz says she doesn’t want to go anymore since you don’t want to go.
lan: aw c’mon! i already put on my crowd-kicking jeans! *airs kicks a few squealing teddy geiger fans*
liz: oh fine.

actually, i probably wouldn’t have gone if it wasn’t for the kettle corn i had to wait in line 42 minutes for. but i didn’t care, it was delicious.

it turns out that like 3000 people were there, many since 5 this morning, so we couldn’t actually see him perform. but we could hear him—sort of. the sound system was really messed up and it kept getting louder and quiter and also squeaking, which wasn’t cool. we left early.

question to all your non rochestarians: is teddy geiger really that famous? have you even heard of him? he went to my town’s male jesuit school until he was on some show or something, it’s all very confusing to me.
