trips?

i slept at kate’s last night. she taught me how to play texas hold’em, but i have to say, i’m so confused by the betting. small blinds, big blinds, wtf? oh whatever.

we also built a cake at like 1 in the morning, and had some around 3. that, my friends, is a nice sleepover.

today we walked to my house and hung around. later kate, liz, and i got on our bikes. only 20 minutes to french road. but i think i won’t take that long, because kate and liz set a really slow pace. ha.

and i can’t help but blog this. i seriously laughed out loud. luckily everyone is elsewhere.

!i!i!i!i!i!i!

more orientation today. i had to get up at 6:15 though, since my dad had to take me since my mom was at work. we learned some gym games, made a staff poster (heads cut out of photos + construction paper = french road heroes), and got our t-shirts and whistles. oh whistles. what a wonderful symbol of authority.

at noon we had to go to our camps from brighton rec, so we stopped for lunch at wendy’s (carly drove jake and me), which was nice. when we got to french road, we set up the mulitpurpose room (the room the school’s letting us use) with tables from the lunch room and all the crap we brought. paper, gator balls, a slip-n-slide, et cetera. we spent the rest of the time talking and making signs to point the campers and their parents to the right room. plus the schedule for the week. we finished a bit early, so carly drove me home (i actually think she may be a worse driver than me, laughing out loud) along with jake. which reminds me, why the heck does everyone know where eric winter lives? when ever people drive me home, they’re like, whoa, eric winter lives in this neighborhood! yeah.

orientation

orientation went fine. we spent most of the time reading over the rules and procedures. we learned a few activities, sang a few songs (most which i knew—i know so darn many songs), and et cetera. so yeah, i’m an integration counselor at french road, along with carly m., so that should be okay. i was a little worried i wouldn’t know the staff, but i recognized almost everyone. becky seems a bit worried that i’m not, hmm, outgoing enough, so she keeps checking on me. which i actually appreciate. becky is so cool. well anyways, afterwards at noon i rode my bike home (after taking a detour for a dr pepper and some cash) and i’ve been moping around since then.

more orientation tomorrow, but this time it’s until 3pm. this is because at noon we have to get to our camps. carly said she’d drive me. although she did say something about not being able to make left turns, which might be a problem, but who knows.

bike fixed, roots bleached

oi. enough is enough! my dad fixed my brakes! if one more person comes up to me and explains that riding a bicycle with broken brakes is unsafe, i’m going to punch someone. he fixed the brakes, he fixed the chain, he fixed everything. it is completely safe now. so shut up already.

life would be a lot easier if no one read this blog. nah, just kidding. you know i love you guys, you guys being my rochestarian family and friends, obviously. man, if someone i knew online only came up to me and said my bike was unsafe, i’d probably punch them in the face and run away.

stock photograph

oh yeah, i got my roots bleached today. that is a stock photograph so that you can see what my hair looks like. i’d take a new one, but my camera battery is dead.

i want to ride my bicycle

i think this summer’s going to be a good one. it’s my first time away from sleep-away camp in many years, and it feels kind of weird actually having to occupy my time with something. working should be fun though. and since my parents work too, i get to ride my bicycle to work everyday, which i’m actually looking forward to. unfortunately, my bike is a bit over 7 years old and i think is on kind of the small side. it’s the smallest of all our family’s bicycles, which is a bit silly, but you know. i won it in the 4th grade, which was a relief because my bike at the time was too small and a new one wasn’t in sight. it’s red and a fairly nice bike. the brakes have never worked right though, the front ones haven’t worked in 4 years. it’s kind of scary going down that first big hill on south clinton, let me tell you that : P

i think when i go to college, i’ll buy myself a new bicycle. one of those nice schwinn ones, the cruiser kinds. those look comfy, and cute.

the about page

well, i’ve finally gotten around to writing the new about page. i’ve written a nice amount of stuff so far, but i think it’s boring and i want to get rid of the lame stuff. so this is your chance to ask me whatever the heck you please! if i like the question enough, i’ll put it on the page, with a link to you if you like. so go ahead, ask away!

i’m the new chauffeur

today i had to drive my dad around because he wants me to practice practice practice. we did the recycling, grabbed some lunch, stopped by the community dark room, visited schoen place to eat ice cream and to see my dad’s guitar teacher play with his band in an organic eatery place, and ended the adventure with a trip to beers of the world. later i went to kelly’s birthday party. she leaves for boot camp tomorow, because she joined the national guard. she’s insane man, just insane.

blast, i failed

yeah, i failed. bah. better luck next time, yeah? i got points off for my screwed up parallel parking and backing up, my uneven braking, my wide right turns, and some stuff listed under “other”.

i saw the parallel parking difficulties coming. i’d only gotten to practice it twice in driver’s ed and twice before the test (both today, actually). when i did it today, i hit the curb, which is an automatic -10 points. you can’t correct that. you can finish the parallel park, but you can’t get any points for it. and since i was so close to the curb, i had trouble backing up. blasted.

i don’t feel that bad (although i do feel pretty bad), since my mom failed hers the first time (hit a motorcycle during her parallel park) and my dad failed his also. my grandparents did too, they told us yesterday.

i think i’ll take it again in late august, before school. i don’t want to be the only senior that still has their permit.

an old hat?

recertified for cpr today. and tomorrow is my road test. man i am nervous. it’s at 1:00, so expect a post around 2:00 saying if i passed or not. i’d say there’s a 19% chance i will. which is better than 0%, yes?

my mom and liz and i went out to lunch with my mom’s dad and his wife (aka my grandparents). when we were eating, my grandma said, and i quote: “lanni, i really dig your watch.” i wanted to laugh so hard, but she was serious. makes you wonder.

what does it mean when you call something an old hat?

and man, people, leave me some love! i feel so lame right now. no one comments anymore. <sad face>

i’m actually a senior?

chem today, my last exam! i’m done! i’m a senior! huzzah!

liz and i celebrated by going to see nacho libre, which was pretty weird. but funny. not as good as napoleono dynamite though, but quite close. there was one line near the beginning when an orphan says to nacho, the cook (who only makes beans and nacho chips): how come we can never eat like a salad? that just killed me.

cpr challenge course tomorrow. i have to wake up early. ugh.

even the cherry-flavoured one

american exam today, chem tomorrow. i think it went well, but i can’t be certain. oh yeah, i got my english thesis grade (60% of my final exam)—92. not bad, not bad at all.

liz: lan, stop using my chapstick!
lan: what? who cares. you used to eat chapsticks. you used to sit in the basement and eat all my chapsticks.
liz: so? i liked the texture.
lan: oh yeah?
liz: that’s also why i ate crayons.
