wow, i just noticed that i haven’t mentioned work all week. which is suprising since i’ve spent more time at work this week than any place else. i have just a few things to mention:
1. on the first day a woman brought her son in, signed the forms, and on her way out mentioned, “no speak english.” so here we have one korean boy that speaks little to no english. at first all he said was ‘no’ or ‘yes,’ but three days in and he has added to his vocabulary: who are you, how are you, bingo, one ball, two ball, new game, i win, my turn, snack, spongebob, and hot chocolate. he pretty much uses these phrases to get his point across. he wants some of my chips? “my turn.” he wins uno? “bingo! i win!” et cetera et cetera.
2. i just might be the worst connect 4 player ever. i have a problem with multitasking (in other words, i am easily distracted). so the kids have their agenda, which i usually forget about as i go ahead with my own. so i lose, a lot. but this also means everyone wants to play me, which is fun. so this week has been full with games of connect 4. i’m getting better though, with all this practice.
3. when we were playing hangman yesterday, i put up a phrase, which was “i am not very good at dodgeball.” they had “i am not __ry _oo_ a_ _o___a__. so what’s the first thing out of one kid’s mouth? “i am not very cool.” hilarious. and sad. but more hilarious.
4. yesterday when we were playing pin dodge, i was a pin guard and ended up being the last person in. so i either had to get one of their pins down or make a basket, and considering that their pins were heavily guarded by all their players, i went for the basket option. i missed the first two (hey, throwing a little ball almost full court is hard!), and got it in the second. considering that i might be the worst dodgeball player in existance (i throw like a girl), this was quite suprising and even more awesome when we ended up turning the game around and winning. although that didn’t exactly happen today when we played, my team lost three games out of three.
5. the kids had tons of fun (perhaps?) with the senior citizens down the hall. on tuesday they played bingo with them, and today they watched ballroom dancers with them. that was hilarious. the kids were able to keep quiet for the first half hour, but after that they were pretty crazy. they sang along with the christmas carols (usually with the wrong words), clapped when no one else was, and for some reason decided that then was the time to play musical chairs. but whatever.
6. i think the general fact that i have driven the car to and from work every day is important enough to mention here.
