notebooks

the people at orientation said that students should start buying their new notebooks now, in order to get used to them before classes begin. so today i did a little bit of research. since i’m being forced to give up a perfectly good computer in order to buy a completely new one, i’m obvs going to have to buy a computer that is better than what i have now.

CURRENT MAC
Machine Name: iMac G5
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache: 512 KB
Memory: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 75 GB
Display: 17 inch
Resolution: 1440 x 900 pixels
COST: $1,099
MAC I WANT
Machine Name: MacBook
CPU Type: Intel Core 2 Duo
CPU Speed: 2.16 GHz
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 160 GB
Display: 13.3 inch
Resolution: 1280 x 800 pixels
COST: $1,424

now the only question is, how do i buy it? i don’t have a credit card. i guess i’ll have to ask my parents. the only problem is, i know my mom will tell me to “wait a bit longer.” lol.

end of other orientation!

today was the last day of orientation for work. we sat through the sexual harassment lecture, got our t-shirts and whistles, made our staff posters, drew up our schedule, and practiced some games. then we loaded up our cars with supplies and drove to french road and set up for monday.

this year we have round tables, and since we have to cover them in paper, we spent about 45 minutes doing just that. considering that we have to do this every single week, and that usually we won’t have the entire staff working on it, i decided to go to wegmans to buy some round tablecloths, the flannel-backed vinyl ones. i got one for each table, and each one has a different design on it. brilliant. (the town can’t/won’t pay for things like this, so my mom and i paid for them ourselves, but the time it will save is definitely worth every penny.)

other orientation!

today was orientation for brighton rec. i rode my bike there nice and early at 7:30am (hey, did i mention my mom bought me an awesome set of saddlebags for the back of my bike? very roomy, waterproof, and awesome). the first day of the orientation lasted from 8am to 12pm, but it felt more like 8am to 5pm. we just went over policy and stuff. carly sat next to me and kept poking me, so that kept me mostly on task.

riding home took TWICE as long, because i was riding into really strong wind and i had to switch to a fairly low gear in order to move at all. it was awful. not to mention that it was again 95ish degrees out. ugh. my mom’s driving me tomorrow, mostly because it’s annoying to ride my bike on the second day of orientation since i have to get a ride to french road to set up, and then instead of potentially getting a ride home, i have to get a ride back to brighton rec and ride home. ugh.

orientation!

so, i got back from orientation today. it was pretty okay. i drove down by myself for the first time, and met up with marie and sruthi when i arrived. we moved into our rooms (which we shared with roommates) and got a folder full of information for the whole two days, plus a free nalgene bottle. the first day was full of too-long lectures and awkward ice-breaker games.

i was glad that there were four of us from my school, because EVERYTHING about orientation is completely awkward. no one knows each other, so everyone looks like a loser at all times. we invited many people to sit with us at meals if they were by themselves.

that night was a “knight out” or something like that (the school mascot is a knight), and there was the “knight spot,” a so-called dance club, and at the union there was ice cream and a stage with a microphone that was supposed to be karaoke, but it didn’t work. after getting annoyed by the scrambling for ideas to replace karaoke, we left and went to see the knight spot. we walked in, looked around at about 40 people awkwardly dancing to “girlfriend” with strobe lights blinding us, and turned around and walked back out. we decided we’d instead sit on the grass outside of the club and talk, and our group of 4 soon turned into a group of 8 people talking about indie music, so it wasn’t too bad after all.

the next day included more lectures, but there was more time in between them to walk around and such. there was also the info fair, at which i acquired many new pens. after that i had my academic advisement, which is when i got my schedule.

- ANTH 100 | Intro to Cultural Anthropology | MWF | 9:30-10:20am | Krumrine
- MATH 221 | Calculus 1 | MWF | 10:30-11:20am | Towsley
- PHYS 101 | Science of Sound-Lecture | MF | 1:30-2:45pm | McLean
- PHYS 101 | Science of Sound-Lab | T | 10:00am-12:00pm | McLean
- THEA 100 | Intro. to the Theatre | TR | 2:10-3:25pm | Garland
- INTD 101 | Harry Potter Goes to College | W | 4:30-5:20pm | Hurlburt

yes, i’m taking a class about harry potter. amazing, yes? it’s only one day, and it’s only one credit. but i needed that one credit, i only had 14 without it.

after the meeting i drove myself and sruthi home. and took a really long shower. because i was sweaty. because it was 93 degrees out both days. and geneseo doesn’t have air conditioning.

grad party awesomeness

my party was pretty cool. a fair number of people came, including my friends, family members (like stevie), adults i know (like becky and curls), and liz’s friends. i might make a post about it when i come back on tuesday night, because i’m far too tired right now to upload all the photos and stuff.

… but, i will tell you the good rumor i heard around the house is true: my parents are trying to find a car for me before i go to geneseo! my mom had me look through a car advertising newspaper and circle all the “beaters,” and the other day she told me that our mechanic had a car available too. i didn’t want to get my hopes up, so i didn’t post about it, but it looks like it’s really happening!

for now, i bid thee adieu, i have to go to bed early so i can get up early enough to drive myself to geneseo (thank god for mapquest). later!

so like yeah

being gradumacated for the last two days has been pretty uneventful. friday was stabby’s grad party, and it was pretty cool. today was chelsea’s. tomorrow is mine and rosalie’s. most of this week has been spent preparing for it (cleaning, buying food and decorations, doing yardwork, et cetera). so that should be exciting. not. oh yeah, and i updated the about me part of the sidebar!

i’ve been hearing a few rumors around the house concerning something i should not speak of, so let’s just say, i’ve been feeling pretty good lately : )

graduation!

I AM OFFICIALLY A FRIGGIN’ GRADUATE OF BRIGHTON HIGH SCHOOL, CLASS OF 2007!

graduation was at 7 at the eastman theater, and it lasted until 9:45. i wore the pink shoes i had bought for ball but didn’t wear, and because they are the exact shade of my hair, i got a LOT of compliments. hah. my diploma is pretty sweet, it says my name on it, spelled correctly. the whole event was kind of a blur, but i do remember ms. boyd reading my name and me walking across the stage, where i shook hands with mr. hall and mrs. hackett, who gave me said diploma. then we posed for a photo (or i think we did, i can’t actually remember that part). the last two students, with Z last names, stayed up on stage to move their tassels over, and when they did they unzipped their gowns and revealed t-shirts that read “THE” and “END.” it was awesome.

i’ll post some photos tomorrow, my dad took a bunch.

P.S. i started this blog the first day of high school. can you believe it’s been four years already?

later gator

so today was the last day of after school (forever, i can’t work in brighton next year). i’m very sad, because it was pretty much the best job ever, even though i got minimum wage. i’m going to miss it a lot. i guess this is the last time i can use the ‘asp’ tag. i hope i can find a job as amazing as this one was in geneseo.

i graduate tomorrow. this is insane. i have to take the physics regents exam tomorrow morning. this is insane.

rehearsal/darien lake

today was our graduation rehearsal (nothing to write home about there, it was pretty much a meeting about graduation, and we sat in the seats that we’ll sit in on thursday). but afterwards was the class trip to darien lake amusement park, which was much more exciting.

on the way there, we drove through a thunder/lightning storm, and it was so bad that our driver made us put our seat belts on. but when we arrived it was over, luckily. first we (me, stabby, dinah, and lina) headed to the water park, but since i just dyed my hair last night, i couldn’t go on. so i waited at a picnic table a rubix’s cubed slash talked to people. after that we hit the rides. we went on the predator (the wooden rollar coaster that kind of hurts to go on), the boomerang (goes forwards and then backwards), the viper (the green one with the loops), and… lina and i went on the skycoaster! it was basically the awesomest ride i have ever been on. it was so worth the 25 bucks you have to pay to go on. it’s a 180 foot drop, and you go up to 63 mph. it’s insane. i got to pull the rip cord, it was so cool.

after we got off a ride we headed towards the games, but it got dark all of the sudden and started to rain. we decided to duck under a food booth shelter to wait it out. well, instead of letting up quickly it started to pour and by then there was a large crowd under the shelter. it was thundering and lightning and everything was wet. the closed all the rides, so we just stood there for a half an hour until it got lighter, and then we ran to the game building. they played lots of games while we waited for the rain to stop (i don’t play games, waste of money). it never did stop raining though, so i put a plastic garbage over me with a hole for my head and we walked around in the rain for the rest of the time. when we got on the bus, everyone was soaked, but we had a great time.

to wendy and joseph

so today i was informed that carly did indeed tell some of the children what the url to this site was, so this is pretty much terrible news (no more cursing, maybe?). luckily, i won’t see said children ever again, so i guess it’s all right.

so this is a shoutout to my friends wendy (the brother), and joseph (the sister). of course those aren’t their real names (they have more gender-appropriate names), but i have been calling wendy “wendy” for months now—although joseph has never really caught on with me. anyway, when i asked joseph what to write about tonight, she said to write about her and her brother. when i asked what exactly about them i should write about, she replied, “i dunno” and scootered away.

cleaning house

this weekend has been dubbed, “hey everyone, it’s time to clean the maszerowski house!”: the weekend that turned into more than a weekend.

so far we have completely cleaned the living room. i vacuumed, curls dusted, and before you knew it, our living room had become bizarro world, for my mom thought it would be nice to change the furniture around. and since our couch is L-shaped, there are only two ways it can fit, so everything is now exactly opposite. i don’t like it, but my mom says we’ll get used to it.

the reason for all this cleaning? my graduation party next sunday. we have so friggin’ much to do, it’s making me think it would have been better not having a party at all (but it’s too late for that). i hate parties anyway. i hate going to them, and i hate having them. bah.

anyone have any party ideas? decorations? food? activities?
