allergic reactionso i went to walmart with lindsey today to get holiday cards, yes? while there we tried on all sorts of winter hats. i also tried on a cute pair of gloves. now, two hours later, my hands have turned completely red thanks to a ridiculous allergic reaction i am having to the gloves, it seems. tommi gave me some benadryl capsules and i put some cortizone cream on them, but they still sting like hell. UGH. this is the third time in my life i’ve had an allergic reaction. once was to my sister’s pert dandruff shampoo (i had mistaken it for my regular pert shampoo), and the other time i just mysteriously broke out into hives. but this is the worst reaction i’ve had. question is, can a person really be allergic to gloves? |

What kind of gloves were they? If they were the magic-stretch kind, maybe you are sensitive to the elastic in them? If they were some kind of wool blend, you may be sensitive to animal fibers. Barring that, someone with heinous hand-crud tried them on before you. :(
i think they were some sort of wool blend. i’ve never worn anything wool before, because my mom hates it/is allergic to it so i never bought anything made of wool.
There’s another thing coming out of China about garments that are tainted with some kind of chemical. People have been reporting burns from gloves and socks, so yeah, it’s entirely possible.
well that’s extremely horrifying, thanks! haha j/k : P
Yup! Were those gloves wool? Grandpa Ray has trouble with socks, shirst, hats. Grandma De thought he was a bit pickie when they met but she learned.
You are my daughter and I have many allergies as you know. You never told me you reacted to Lizzie’s shampoo! You might have slight contact dermatitis. I reacted to Lizzie’s laundry soap when I slept on her bed. I am allergic to wool, down, Latex and uncovered elastic. I never use perfumed lotions, makeup, scented kleenex, laundry soap etc. or foods I have problems with (ie the food schedule (Wed it is spagetti, sun pizza, mon chicken etc).
So my advise stay away from stuff you have had problems with in the past, read labels and carry both Benadryl capsules and cream. If it gets worse we will get you something faster acting.
i think they were indeed made of wool, so maybe i’ll allergic to it like you and grandpa are. i’ll stay away from now on!
and i got the benadryl gel and put it on my vanity shelf.
remember that time i rubbed hoover on my face and broke out in hives? that was hilarious
hahahahaha that was pretty hilarious! and sad. lol.
Stevie Have fun with grandpa! Gobble gobble
if you’re allergic to gloves, you should try wearing mittens. (lol, how lame was that)
oh my, that was a very terrible joke! lmao.
but it was so terrible that it made me laugh :P
Benadryl is an anti-histamine. It probably will not be affective on your reaction to wool. Hydrocortisone would probably be a better first try. Also possibly calamine lotion for relief. Benadryl also has the side affect of making you sleepy, which makes it difficult to use during the day.
Also consider not buying products made in China. Basically they’re cheats. Why support that
The Medicine Chest
i only took the benadryl because i didn’t have any of the gel, and i wasn’t sure if the cortizone cream would actually do anything. i was about to go to bed, so i wasn’t really worried about the drowsiness effect. but my mom gave me the gel, so i have that now. but considering this is the first time this has happened, i’m not anticipating it happening again any time soon.
and i generally don’t buy things from walmart. we were just being goofs and trying things on for fun.
Benadryl gel work much better on most of my itching than the Hydrocortisone which tends to make it more dried out raw.
i have it now, i’ll use it next time!
