hall t-shirts

turns out my class t-shirt design from last year was popular campus-wide, so when my hall council had a meeting, my name came up whilst discussing hall t-shirts. so i have made a mock-up of a potential design. i was told i should keep the general vibe of the class t-shirt, which i attempted to do. and it has tested well so far, yay!

ETA: my design won the t-shirt contest! the shirts will be printed on navy and pink, available the week before thanksgiving break : )

ambigram

i’m currently rereading angels & demons for the millionth time, and i’ve become really interested in the ambigrams that are featured in it. an ambigram is a word that can be read the same more than one way. the ones in the book are called rotational ambigrams, and they are words that can be read the same way when flipped over. they’re quite brilliant.

crafting one is ridiculously hard (for me at least), but lauren and i have been working on some ever since i showed her one i did in my calc notebook. neither of us have been able to get “lanni” to work, but i was successful with just “lan”.

class of 2011!

oh, i forgot to mention that i won my class’ t-shirt design contest a few weeks ago. the prize is a free t-shirt.

the image i based it on was saved on my desktop for a few weeks before i got the email about the contest. originally my intentions were to make it into a button for my backpack, but i thought it could work for a t-shirt too. and i apparently “won by a landslide,” according to alexa and her roommate. so all went well.

5. under the cut you will find an amazing piece of artwork about the BEST part of the entire book (SPOILERS!). you will also find a couple of questions and answers from this webchat transcript with JKR. basically, now that the book has been published, she’s willing to answer any question about anything at all, which is awesome. i recommend you read it if you like harry potter, it ties up a lot of loose ends : )

( continue reading this entry! )

tetris!

yesterday my mom and i went to the art show i was talking about the other day. my drawing was there, it got an honorable mention. that was pretty cool. although they did spell my first name wrong on the drawing label, and in the program. it’s two n’s, not one! anyways, check out my drawing by clicking on the thumbnail below.

in crowd

so my new cell phone is pretty much amazing (although the color is making me sad still). i learned how to text message today, it was exciting. i also figured out how to listen to voicemail, add contacts, take pictures, and mess with the other settings. and i almost have my number memorized. almost.

the brighton spring clean up was canceled today due to rain, so i got home at 3pm for the first time in weeks. totally awesome. and i have mangaged to watch 5 episodes of 30 rock today. i swear, each time i watch that show it gets funnier and funnier.

WATCH THIS TRAILER FOR THE SEASON FINALE TOMORROW. OMG.

oh, and my art teacher picked one of my drawings for an art show, which is tomorrow down on south clinton. i think i’ll be going, if i can. my parents have been really busy this quarter, so i don’t think they can go, but we’ll see.

new time - 2.13

what happens when school is cancelled and you have nothing to do?

(1) practice your rubik’s cube (see title).

(2) go to the movies and see epic movie (terrible) with your sister, your friend stabby, stabby’s two sisters, her sister’s friend, your friend chels, chels’ brother, and her brother’s friend. and don’t forget: everyone has to fit in two cars. and your mom has to drive.

(3) go on a photoshop frenzy and produce one hilar drawing of you and your sister, which you drew on your wacom tablet…

from this drawing you can see that i: have short, pink hair, my skin is pale(ish), my eyes are squinty, and i have a big dopey smile. liz, on the other hand: has long, brown hair, tan skin, glasses, and a typical liz smile. yet we are related.

sunday

tomorrow is the last day of the semester. i’m undecided whether i’m glad or not.

so, well, it’s sunday. which meant i drove liz around a lot, finished my self-portrait collage, cleaned up because i couldn’t see the carpet under the layers of magazine pages, did a bit of physics homework, and didn’t study for my midterms. so that’s all good.

self portrait

we’re doing self portraits in studio art 1, and mr. kunz showed us the easiest way ever to get the proportions right (which is what always messes up my drawings, that and not being able to draw), a grid! we drew grids on our photos and a grid on our paper. so i thought i’d try a smaller portrait yesterday, and instead of drawing the grid on my paper, since i planned on coloring it with colored pencils (which is the reason my skin is kinda yellowy, since i don’t have a good tan), i used my window as a light table and put a grid behind it. genius. i think it turned out nice, what do you think?
