OH NO

I HAVE LESS THAN 1 GB OF FREE SPACE ON MY HARD DRIVE.

what do i do?

ETA: it might have something to do with the fact that i have 135 GB of itunes stuff, and a 185 GB hard drive.

i like this hard drive. oh, and this one too.

pipe dreams

i think i’m really good at daydreaming. today i spent 3+ hours on ebay and other such sites, drooling as i assembled a kick-ass list of things i would need if i was to have a comfortable computering experience here in my room (oh, did i mention i’m on spring break?!).

1. an apple cinema display. 20″ would suffice. because 13″ just don’t cut it for me, or my eyes.

2. a wireless keyboard (i already have a mouse). and no, i do not care that there is no number pad. i touch type, i have no need for a number pad.

3. some sort of macbook dock. to make things easier. (this photo is of a bookendz docking station.)

lucky me, i already have a few necessary components of this elaborate scheme: a computer (a 13″ macbook, to be precise), a wireless mighty mouse that isn’t mighty anymore, and some awesome speakers. so i’m halfway there (not).

mac attack

i think when summer vacation comes i am going to invest in a laptop stand and a wireless keyboard. i am still as anti-laptop as ever, and i seriously hate how uncomfortable notebooks are. i’m doing good well this first year of college, so i think i deserve to waste my money on something i want rather than something i need.

ETA: oh my, you do not know how tempting it is to buy this item:

Refurbished Apple Cinema Display (20-inch flat panel w/ aluminum enclosure)
20-inch (viewable), 1680 x 1050 optimal resolution

Save 62% off the original price
Original price: $1,299.00
Your price: $499.00

HOLY CRAP I AM ACTUALLY CONSIDERING THIS. WHEELS ARE TURNING! MAKE THEM STOP!

ETA2: if a 24-inch imac showed up on my doorstep, that would solve all these problems (and more). so consider that.

bluetooth laser virtual keyboard!

This tiny device laser-projects a keyboard on any flat surface… you can then type away accompanied by simulated key click sounds. It really is true future magic at its best. You’ll be turning heads the moment you pull this baby from your pocket and use it to compose an e-mail on your bluetooth enabled PDA or Cell Phone. With 63 keys and and full size QWERTY layout the Laser Virtual Keyboard can approach typing speeds of a standard keyboard… in a size a little larger than a matchbook.

OMG. it projects a keyboard onto the table, and you can type on it! that is probably the coolest thing ever. if it wasn’t $179.99, i would so buy one.

new macbook!

new macbook!

so far, it’s pretty cool. since it’s the same version of os x that i have, it’s not really that different from my imac, it’s just harder to type on it, and the screen is considerably smaller. plus it has a 200 GB hard drive, and my imac only has 75 GB. ha ha, this is awesome. i’m currently importing my music and movies, and all my photos. so i might have to let it run by itself and set a timer for shut down, because i don’t know how late i can stay up… lol.

in other news, yesterday it took me one hour to travel 7 miles, because the 490 going downtown was really backed up. and i have almost zero experience driving during rush hour downtown. so that was fun. i learned a lot. NOT.

also, i thought i’d mention that it’s the last week of camp (although i am working another camp next week, but only for a week). it’s olympic week and it’s going really well. carly and i have a team together again, and we’re in first place—lol. we have a party on friday and then we’re done! it’s been a good summer, i’m going to miss working at camp : (

more on notebooks

today my dad and i went to the apple store, to check out the macbooks. i had already compared them at orientation (apple had a booth set up with all the computers), but i wanted my dad to be there because he obvs knows more than me. the real debate for me is whether i want a macbook or a macbook pro. pros and cons for getting a macbook pro, i suppose?

pros:
- bigger screen, bigger resolution
- 4GB of memory as opposed to 2GB
- 2.2GHz processor as opposed to 2.16GHz (although i admittedly don’t know what that means)

cons:
- bigger, heavier
- shorter battery life
- ugly silver color
- same size hard drive as a cheaper macbook

i know those cons are kind of lame, but they all are completely applicable in this situation. i really don’t want a larger computer to lug around. a shorter battery life isn’t really cool when you’re in college. if i max out a regular macbook with the biggest configuations, it’ll come close to everything that a macbook pro is, for $500+ cheaper. so pretty much i’d be paying all that for the extra 2 inches of display size. personally, i don’t think that’s worth it, but my parents like freaked out when i told them that.

besides, the more i think about it, the more i realize that a smaller computer would be really handy in college.

notebooks

the people at orientation said that students should start buying their new notebooks now, in order to get used to them before classes begin. so today i did a little bit of research. since i’m being forced to give up a perfectly good computer in order to buy a completely new one, i’m obvs going to have to buy a computer that is better than what i have now.

CURRENT MAC
Machine Name: iMac G5
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache: 512 KB
Memory: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 75 GB
Display: 17 inch
Resolution: 1440 x 900 pixels
COST: $1,099
MAC I WANT
Machine Name: MacBook
CPU Type: Intel Core 2 Duo
CPU Speed: 2.16 GHz
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 160 GB
Display: 13.3 inch
Resolution: 1280 x 800 pixels
COST: $1,424

now the only question is, how do i buy it? i don’t have a credit card. i guess i’ll have to ask my parents. the only problem is, i know my mom will tell me to “wait a bit longer.” lol.

computrons

the more i think about it, the more excited i am to buy a new mac. i have it all figured out in my mind. i’m buying a macbook, with a wireless card. and i’m getting it new, because i can get a discount because i’m a student. i’m really glad i’m not buying a used one. used computers are fine, but i’d absolutely hate to have one my first year of college. the macbook i’m getting (white, 2.16GHz processor, with the biggest friggin’ hard drive i can get) is only 13 inches, but the smaller size is growing on me. originally i was going to get a macbook pro, but i’m not shelling out an extra grand for it, it’s not worth it. the cost for mine will be $1,312, and i can luckily pay that easy.

oy, looc si innal

i’m using my old keyboard again. i can’t believe that new one crapped out so quickly. i guess having a key board with a broken spacebar that’s duct taped together is better than one that has several dysfunctional keys (the m doesn’t work at all now). bah.

i gave blood today, yay! it was very exciting since i have had low iron levels for a record THIRTEEN MONTHS. my arm aches now though, but it feels good to save lives.

i’m going through that stage at the end of the school year when i really don’t want to do any work, but i have two HUGE projects due, one next week and one two weeks from now. both count as my final exam grade. and i’m really stressing out. i think about them all the time, but every time i go to do them i find something else to do. i’m setting my mac alarm to 7am, and i’m turning up the volume on my speakers really loud before i go to bed. i AM going to work on them tomorrow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!

mmmaybe i’ll get a new kb

FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS: MMY KEYBOARD HAS BROKEN(ISH). so the mm key is busted, whenever i type one it types two or three of themmm. the capital u doesn’t work, although the lower case one does (mmmmmost of the timme). i have to use the capslock key to type one letter. the page down key doesn’t work, although the page up key does. the jjjjjjjj key only works if you hold it down for a few seconds, and then it spurts out a bazillion of themm. i’mm a little annoyed, i have to say.

SECOND ORDER OF BUSINESS: BESIDES THE KEYBOARD, THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF MMY BEST WEEKS IN A WHILE.

(1) mments was awesome yesterday.

(2) i’mmm on the ballot for speakers at graduation, for somme reason or another. we got the ballots in hommeroommm, and rosalie’s like, “hey, lan’s on here! everyone vote for her!” and i of course responded with, “god no, please do not vote for me!” but i’m honored, really. it’s pretty ammmmazing that out of 350 students, i was on the list of 15.

(3) i’ll be working wednesdays at brighton rec. now, since i don’t have mments anymmore, but i’ll be working with becky in the office, not at after school. finally, i’ll get to use the second row on mmy timme sheet—”after school: 24 hours, office: 6 hours.” score!

(4) yesterday my mmulti-lit teacher read one of my test responses out loud (which i hate and love at the same time) because it mmade her realize something she hadn’t before (a mmetaphor). and today she read two intro paragraphs from the essay test we had yesterday, one was mmmine and one was kate’s. awesomme.

THIRD ORDER OF BUSINESS: TEMPER TANTRUMS AREN’T COOL. one of the council rock girl’s doesn’t speak a lot of english (her first day she didn’t speak any at all), and to top it all off, she constantly has temmper tantrumms and hits the other kids. today she got too violent and it got to the point where i was sent to get becky, and we had to call her mmmom. she not only hit, but tried to bite a kid, and grabbed some scissors like she was going to hurt either herself or someone close by. the kids are already scared of her, this didn’t help. plus it scared the hell out of mmme.
