hello there! where have i been all week? let’s just say i’m a bit busier than usual, which means i also haven’t been sleeping much either so i feel like crap, but what’s new?

well, on tuesday i worked the concert series show, and it was def more fun than usual. but that was because it effing poured and thundered and lightninged, and the band still played. and everyone that was watching stayed. well, they moved under the concession stand pavilion, but they could still hear from there. melissa and i were completely soaked—so soaked i couldn’t wear my pink chucks to work on wednesday.

on wednesday i went to seabreeze with liz, my cousin steve, his friend trevor, my aunt marta, and my uncle tom. we went on all the cool rides (and some that were less than cool, like the new ride they put in this year—super lame). it was a pretty grand time, despite the fact that steve squished me on a ride (thanks, gravity!) and i got covered in powdered sugar thanks to trevor’s snack and steven’s idiocy. afterwards we ate at bill grays and got lost finding the interchange on the way home.

and today i think i spent more time doing work things off the clock than i did on it. i got up at 6:00am to get things ready for our art project today, i stayed late to fold up tables and move heavy things to prep for our talent show tomorrow, i edited the programs to the show, i ran off 100 double-sided copies of the programs at the office, i hung out in becky’s office for a good hour, and i spent way too long folding the programs as i watched episodes of scrubs on my computer.

yesterday:
came back to good ol’ brighton to sub at after school, which was of course super fun. it was sunny out so we got to go outside, which rocked. it was nice seeing the staff again too. plus i found out (mostly) who is working at french road camp this summer, where i will be assistant director(!).

later that night stabby and i went and saw baby mama, which i had higher expectations for. but it was alright, definitely pretty funny. and the acting was top notch, of course. tina fey is awesome.

today: this morning becky picked me up and we went to the middle school for the brighton clean sweep (formerly know as the spring clean-up). turns out it was county-wide this year. seriously. the entire county. 700 people volunteered just from brighton. this was the first year i was actually “in charge,” because i’m apparently an adult now. “hi guys, i’m lanni! i work for the rec department!” so yeah, that was cool. got to see lots of my mentoring club kids and old teachers and such. plus i got a chartreuse t-shirt. fun.

i spent the rest of the day doing random stuff, like getting my hair cut, writing two papers, hanging out with stabby, playing board games, doing a crossword, et cetera.

roc weekend

surprise, surprise — i spent the weekend in the roc. but of course i had a reason: the hair. it’s pink(er)! so that was my saturday activity. oh, and liz and i (mostly) switched bedrooms. everything is switched except for our beds, because we have to take them apart.

and today i picked up mike and we went to the pitts-pla barnes and noble (spent friggin’ two hours there, probably a record) and then good ol’ walmart for an hour. mike’s hilarious, i’m glad some of my friends are still in rochester. it was a good day.

LIZ- i used this icon just for you. good luck with finishing the great gatsby!

good saturday

today was supposed to be jam-packed, but it ended up being a fairly regular saturday. i went to record archive and hung out with mike for a few hours (and yes, i also went yesterday and got three cd’s: one tmbg EP, one cake album, and my splurge — a not-used modest mouse album). after that the plan was to see a movie, but he had to take a raincheck for family reasons.

after that i was supposed to hang out with kate at my house to play rummikrub, but her cellphone broke and she ended up sleeping for a majority of the day.

and after that i was supposed to hang out with stabby, and that actually worked out fine. we made pizza while watching an episode of “sabrina,” then watched hairspray (i think that would be my 8th time seeing it), played a good game of scrabble, and drove to wegmans. fairly typical night for us.

but, the movie with mike has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 1pm, so not all is lost.

a sudden twist of fate

so, it’s sunday. i’m going to backdate this entry to friday, since this is when i will begin the epic tale that is my weekend.

okay, so on friday after i took my physics test (i don’t want to talk about that), my mom came and picked me up in the dentmobile. then she drove me back to the house, and i officially received the car for the weekend. first stop, SUNY oswego to pick up stabby. it’s an hour and a half there from my house, and two hours back to geneseo. this was the longest i had ever driven before (that syracuse trip was a close second). anyway, we stopped off at the pittsford wegmans so abby could say hi to her mom and we had dinner at macaroni grill for old time’s sake. we got to geneseo too late to see the hockey game, so we watched a movie and played scrabble, then went to bed around 1am.

the next morning i got dragged to brunch (i despise brunch, so i picked out all the grapes from the fruit salad and ate those, and had some kool-aid) with the usual crew. after brunch abby and i drove to wegmans because we needed some stuff (carrots, mainly). afterwards i gave her a tour of main street and finally went in the local record store, buzzo music. turns out they aren’t getting new cd’s anymore, instead they order them on the internet for you and you can pick them up. and i’m like, uh, why would i do that if i have the ability to order things off the internet also? so i didn’t end up buying anything, but i might go back sometime and look through the cd’s they do have (i was only looking for things on “the list”).

at 8pm we went to that musical i’m required to see for theatre 100, “pacific overtures.” it was really weird, but i don’t think it was bad. it was just bizarre. and it finished at 10:30pm. so stabby and i got right into the car and headed back to oswego. in a sudden twist of fate (this is a term abby has taken to use a lot, often in situations that do not require it), we ended up driving 15MPH on the expressway for twenty minutes, and there was zero traffic. why, you say? one word: FOG. so much fog that i couldn’t see ten feet in front of the car, but i knew it was pointless to pull over, since that fog wasn’t going anywhere. so i drove 15MPH with my emergency flashers. it was intense.

i dropped abby off two hours later at 12:30am. another two hours back and it was 2:30am, making it the longest i’ve ever driven in a car, officially.

dear diary, you suck

i thought i might do a bit o’ daylogging, to get everyone caught up one what i’ve been doing. (okay, i admit it, i don’t want to do my theater homework.)

thursday: after thursday television a bunch of people from 4 south (me, megan, janine, lauren) made a trip to walmart at 10:39pm via the bus. before we turned onto the road to walmart, the bus driver asks us if we knew this was the last bus for the night, and then we wouldn’t have a ride back. we obviously did not, so lauren called a friend of her’s and asked if he could drive us back when we were done, and he said yes. crisis averted. when we got to walmart, i bought what i came for (carrots, just carrots) and everyone else got what they came for (mostly halloween costume stuff). some crazy stuff happened in between that i will omit, but the important part is that in the end we made it back, and only a little after midnight.

friday: um, i’m kind of blanking on what happened. i went home.

saturday: well, i already talked about my record archive excursion, so i’ll skip to later that night… my dad got his black belt, officially! we went to his graduation and he did his katas and sparring and such, it was very awesome! he got a diploma and everything. but he says he’s not done. now he’s a sensei and will work on getting his black belt certification, or 1st degree black belt. very cool.

sunday: a.k.a. today. hahaha, i actually ended up going to record archive once again to hang out with mike. he introduced me to the two dollar section, which was amazing. here i’ve been buying five dollar cd’s all this time (although it is very hard to find anything in the two dollar section, since the albums aren’t in any order). i ended up getting two more cd’s, and mike got like 20ish for five bucks via the “fill a bag for $5″ promotion in the front. after record archive we walked to wegman’s to buy drinks, and i saw michaela there. it was awkward because i was just thinking about how glad i was that mike had asked me to come, since none of my friends are still in rochester (although i didn’t mention that). anyway, mike ended up buying a vitamin water called “b-relaxed” that contained guava-jackfruit (b vitamins and theanine). does that sketch anyone else out? hahaha. after wegman’s we went to the video game store and talked about how awesome gameboy pockets are. seriously, they’re amazing.

and now i’m back at geneseo. the end.

Oh!

yesterday: liz and my mom drove to see me and we all went out to dinner at this burger joint we always go to when we visit lake conesus. after we ate we went back to my dorm and liz hung out with me and my friends in my room. we had a real good heart to heart. seriously. college had made me more able to share my feelings. it’s good because if i can’t share what i’m thinking on this ol’ blog, it’s good that i can do it somewhere. i almost let my biggest most darkest secret slip, but i’m so scared that if i tell anyone it will literally ruin my life, so i was able to keep my lips shut.

today: i got up at 9 (whoa, a whole hour later than usual) and lazied around for awhile. when i was surfing the interwebs my dad asked if i wanted to go out to lunch, so i of course said yes. we went to subway and then went to walmart for a bit ‘o shopping (cereal and tape). then my dad did the coolest thing EVER: he fixed our tv! we now get 80 channels! we used to get 28. it’s amazing. well, not really, since i don’t actually watch any cable shows, but it’s amazing knowing that i now can. and megan’s very very very happy.

oh, and i bought the soundtrack for across the universe on itunes. 32 songs for 10 bucks. it’s pretty awesome, and now i’m psyched to get home so that i can illegally download all the original versions (well, i have a majority of them already, but you know) and compare them. ah.

yesterday was sruthi’s birthday, so we all went out to big tree inn to celebrate both of our’s (they only accept student meal plan cards tuesday-thursday). it’s probably the nicest restaurant i’ve been to in a very long time—two forks, four or so courses, fancy menus with $25 meals listed on them, et cetera. but sruthi and i got free desserts, so it was all good.

today i only had two classes and i was done by 11:20am (harry potter class was canceled for today). so i did some errands: checked my mailbox, got a new id card (mine somehow got deactivated so i kept having to wait for someone to come and let me into my dorm, and that got old fast), took the bus to wegman’s to buy groceries (milk, dr p, freezy-pops, goldfish), filled the brita, and took down the recycling and the garbage.

now i’m watching the rugby team outside my window practice. they practice every single day at 4:30, and most don’t wear shirts. this so isn’t helping me finish my physics homework.

the weekenders

today i went to lake conesus to attend a family party thing (liz also brought three of her friends, because, unlike me, she has friends that are actually in rochester still). i drove there with my dad earlier than my mom and liz and company because my dad’s car is like falling apart and can’t travel on the expressway anymore because it can’t go above 50 without wigging out. well anyways, most of the afternoon was spent on the lake, tubing. i myself did not partake, but i learned how to drive the boat and was allowed to take liz and her friends out. and we didn’t run anything (or anyone) over, although when my mom was driving earlier that day, she did manage to make one of the kids on the tube run into a buoy (he was okay, eventually).

i just finished playing a game of scrabble with my roommate megan and my friends sruthi and marie, and you’ll never believe the news: marie won! i haven’t lost a game of scrabble in years, this was truly awesome. she beat me by 13 points, and afterwards she had a photoshoot with the scorecard and the game board. lol.

babysitting

so, i babysit today. i didn’t mention this before, but i most definitely wasn’t looking forward to it because this particular girl was always a problem at after school, she likes to talk back. when her mom asked for a babysitter, everyone else seemed to have something to do this week. i volunteered because, well, i like getting paid.

so i went over with low expectations. and this is going to sound crazy, and i never thought i’d EVER say this, but… i actually had a fun time! when she’s not around her peers she’s actually a really cool kid. we watched a movie (raise your voice starring hill-duff, which i will admit i brought from home, but it’s liz’s, not mine!), walked to the library and read for a half an hour (we even learned a bit about how books are organized), made sandwiches (bologna and, ew—mayonnaise, which i had to actually spread), went to tops and poked bread and made fun of cheese (plus bought dr pepper), did magic tricks (she did two card tricks, which i had actually taught her earlier this year but she seemed to have forgotten that), and played cards (i learned two new games, yay). and she never argued with me or was rude at all. it was actually f-u-n.

but the highlight of my 7 hour day was when we stopped in a gamestop on the way home so she could show me what she was getting for christmas (a DS). she tried that brain game for adults that’s really popular, and she was doing this thing where she had to subtract 7 from a high number (like 82), and then subtract 7 from the answer, and so on. she’s not the best at math (i think she has a tutor), so she kept asking me to tell her the answers. soon the two employees there and a mom that had come in with her kid were crowded around giving her tips on subtracting and helpful hints for using your fingers and such. it was so adorable. a team effort.

orientation!

so, i got back from orientation today. it was pretty okay. i drove down by myself for the first time, and met up with marie and sruthi when i arrived. we moved into our rooms (which we shared with roommates) and got a folder full of information for the whole two days, plus a free nalgene bottle. the first day was full of too-long lectures and awkward ice-breaker games.

i was glad that there were four of us from my school, because EVERYTHING about orientation is completely awkward. no one knows each other, so everyone looks like a loser at all times. we invited many people to sit with us at meals if they were by themselves.

that night was a “knight out” or something like that (the school mascot is a knight), and there was the “knight spot,” a so-called dance club, and at the union there was ice cream and a stage with a microphone that was supposed to be karaoke, but it didn’t work. after getting annoyed by the scrambling for ideas to replace karaoke, we left and went to see the knight spot. we walked in, looked around at about 40 people awkwardly dancing to “girlfriend” with strobe lights blinding us, and turned around and walked back out. we decided we’d instead sit on the grass outside of the club and talk, and our group of 4 soon turned into a group of 8 people talking about indie music, so it wasn’t too bad after all.

the next day included more lectures, but there was more time in between them to walk around and such. there was also the info fair, at which i acquired many new pens. after that i had my academic advisement, which is when i got my schedule.

- ANTH 100 | Intro to Cultural Anthropology | MWF | 9:30-10:20am | Krumrine
- MATH 221 | Calculus 1 | MWF | 10:30-11:20am | Towsley
- PHYS 101 | Science of Sound-Lecture | MF | 1:30-2:45pm | McLean
- PHYS 101 | Science of Sound-Lab | T | 10:00am-12:00pm | McLean
- THEA 100 | Intro. to the Theatre | TR | 2:10-3:25pm | Garland
- INTD 101 | Harry Potter Goes to College | W | 4:30-5:20pm | Hurlburt

yes, i’m taking a class about harry potter. amazing, yes? it’s only one day, and it’s only one credit. but i needed that one credit, i only had 14 without it.

after the meeting i drove myself and sruthi home. and took a really long shower. because i was sweaty. because it was 93 degrees out both days. and geneseo doesn’t have air conditioning.
