nick & norah’s infinite playlist

yesterday i saw nick & norah’s infinite playlist with alexa, marie, and alexa’s roommate christina!

basically, it’s all sorts of amazing. i had already purchased (and adored) the soundtrack before i even went to see it, which made it ever better. oh, and i have a link for it if you want to listen — nick & norah’s infinite playlist soundtrack.

my shining moment occurred when i was the only one to realize that the guitar nick plays towards the end in the studio probably once belonged to jimi hendrix, because it was, according to nick, a left-handed guitar. but it wasn’t, as i could see by the scratchplate. right-handed guitar strung for a left-handed player? white stratocaster? has to be hendrix : )

CAKE!

IMG_3190

the CAKE concert was last night! oh man, i think it was one of the best shows i’ve been to, ever. they are SO amazing live! like, maybe ever better than on their records. plus they’re in the “big five,” which is just my top five bands in no specific order (they might be giants, mc lars, atom and his package, the aquabats, and cake).

IMG_3182

i went with liz, curls, and alexa. and guess who we saw there? torch! from pinewood! with the four of us there, it was a mini pinewood reunion : )

they played some of my favorites, and of course closed with the best of the best — short skirt / long jacket! highlights included comfort eagle (”he is calling you DUDE!”), the distance, wheels, comanche, stickshifts and safetybelts, frank sinatra, guitar, love you madly, arco arena, and never there. jeez, now that i think about it, every single song was amazing.

also, best photo ever:

and i caught “short skirt / long jacket” on camera! sounds better in real life though.

nineteen

IMG_3013

i turned nineteen today! it was a pretty good day, i have to say. today i…

… got 83 emails in my inbox. holy mackerel. (it’s mostly because of facebook wall posts, lol.)

… received several cute cards and gifts — i got the pens i asked for, the rubik’s cube clock i linked to, and the little mermaid III.

… didn’t get any sneak hugs, thank god!

… purchased season 4 of the office and season 2 of 30 rock on itunes. sixty dollar b-day gift to myself.

… got cupcakes from my suitehearts <3

sweet suite

IMG_2995

explanation of this photo:

we decorated our suite today! no photos at the moment because it’s not completely finished yet. lauren and lindsey are really super creative and painted like a huge beach mural thing in our hallway — it’s amazing. so our hallway is beach themed and our common room theme is “old hollywood” and we bought a bajillion black and white posters of actors and such. super cute.

the moral of the story is that i think the OCD i have developed over the past few years is getting kind of noticeable. i spend about 15 minutes in the morning tidying up the suite, and before i go to bed i do likewise. i take out the garbage, clean up trash, collect a lost and found, arrange the pillows, tidy the bath room, and just straighten up in general. i didn’t think anyone really knew, but they somehow have figured it out. when i came downstairs from hanging out in the suite upstairs, they made me promise before i went in that i wouldn’t clean at all tonight. you see, whilst painting the murals, lauren and lindsey managed to paint the floor as well. plus there were scraps of paper everywhere. and all the furniture and rugs were askew. basically, it was a disaster zone. while i stood in the doorway, apparently looking horrified, megan lightened the mood by writing the above message on the floor by my feet.

and i mostly stayed true to my word! (i just helped a little tiny bit with the scrubbing, and i still did my 15-minute tidy up before i got ready for bed.)

first day of classes

things i did today:

went to class:
today i had education 214, calculus 3, and math 141. the education class is going to be a bit of work, the calc class is going to be a lot of work, and the math class is going to be mad easy. basically. oh, and my professors are all really awesome this semester. finally.

moved furniture:
i spent an hour or so moving furniture around the common room… and then i moved it all back. seems there is only one way to set up all our furniture (one futon, one couch, and three chairs). haha that was a waste of my time.

went to sundance:
after class megan and i went to sundance, the textbook store. she had to return a book, i had to buy one. you see, i went to sundance last week, hoping to get my books before classes started so i wouldn’t have to wait in the hour-long line that appears there at the beginning of every semester. but they didn’t have it then, so the guy, steve, told me to come back when classes start. which i did. but that meant i had to wait in the line. for an hour and fifteen minutes. when it was my turn, i got steve as my cashier again, and again they did not have it. but steve was really nice about it. he said next time to call ahead, and if they have it, to call him when i’m by the back entrance, and he’ll let me in (bypassing the line). i think i love steve.

hung around:
and that’s pretty much what i did for the rest of the night. watched some the office with my suitemates plus eric (sruthi’s friend). rubik’s cubed with jess from upstairs. dealt with an exploded dr pepper can with sruthi (ugh). it’s going to be a good year.

why so serious?

3 things i did tonight:

(1) bummed around pittsford plaza with stabby, jon, and abby’s sister cat. we had dinner at applebees, hung out in barnes and noble, and hit up wegmans. it was a pretty swell time.

(2) saw the dark knight. expect a separate post about it tomorrow, but for now: OH MY GOD.

(3) got pulled over by a brighton cop after dropping jon off. i had no idea if i was speeding or not, because the dashboard lights don’t work anymore. so when he asked me, “do you know why i pulled you over?” i was truthfully able to answer no. turns out it’s not just my dashboard lights that don’t work — my tail-lights are out of commission too. so i got my first ticket tonight. and it wasn’t even my fault. fucking dentmobile.

first day of camp

first day of work? nailed it.

it’s awesome being in charge. today went so smoothly i couldn’t believe it. the kids are great, the staff is great, life in general is great. it’s all kind of weird though, leading. i mean, i’m only the assistant director, but it’s still a lot of authority. especially since i’ve been at french road for a few years already. and all the building staff already know me, so i was an excellent help when we needed to find someone to unlock the front door and to find us a water key. lol, it’s going to be a really great summer.

and tonight i saw hancock again with jon, capping off my good day. mike was supposed to come, but he got grounded because he has to go to summer school. sigh, high schoolers. lol.

tom petty

tom petty was effing amazing.

i went with sruthi and megan (not roommate megan, the other one). megan lives in syracuse, so i picked her up from the bus station around 5pm, and then i got sruthi from her house, and we made the one hour trip to darien lake for the show. well, it was supposed to be an hour, but with the traffic going into the park, it was really two hours. but we made it in eventually.

the opener was already playing when we got there, but on the lawn we really couldn’t hear anything because no one seemed too interested and everyone was chatting and such. while we were waiting we got harassed by plenty of drunk men, but soon enough it was tom petty time. the weather was nice and breezy, and it looked like it was going to be a good night.

about ten minutes into the set, the sun had gone down enough for us to see that it was lightning in the background. a half an hour into the set, it started pouring, instantly soaking us. five minutes later, the power went out as they played my top 2 tom petty song, last dance with mary jane. everything was up and running a minute or two later, and they continued from where they left off. by then we were so wet we hardly noticed the rain, but the wind was picking up. the sun was all the way down by then and the temperature had dropped considerably. but this seemed to made the crowd more rowdy, myself and my friends included. it didn’t stop raining all night, and the power went out a few more times. but we stayed, wetter than imaginable, colder than desirable, and having a great time seeing tom petty play our favorite songs. the night ended with my top 1 tom petty song, american girl. awesome.

on the way to the car, we had no choice but to go through the mud, ruining my brand new neon pink chucks. oh well. it took us two hours to get out of the parking lot, carefully switching between idling and turning the car off, due to the fact that the gas was on SUPER-E (what i call the point when the indicator goes past the E). we eventually made it home at around 2:30am. all we wanted to do at that point was take a shower, put on some dry clothes, and get the heck in bed (megan stayed over, sruthi went home). and that’s what we did.

i’m back in brighton! it’s been a bittersweet day; it was so hard to say goodbye to all of the 4 south gang without becoming super sad that i don’t get to see most of them for three months. you know what else was hard to do? pack. oh my god i have so much crap (but not as much as some of the people i saw moving out today, wow). we couldn’t even fit everything in my dad’s new car (which is awesome, btw). after putting the leftovers in the dentmobile, i convinced scott my RA (of the scott is hott fame) to check me out early. after several handshakes and high-fives, i left room 404 for the last timer ever. saddening. still, it’s good to be home. i start work tomorrow, so that’ll occupy my time for three hours a day. yeah.

oh, and finals went okay. i had my math 140 final today, my history of education final yesterday, and my calculus final on monday. i’m a really bad judge of how i think i did, so i won’t make any predictions.
