we are teh hax0rz.

liz and i figured out how to hack each other’s computers with terminal. i choose to only say things, but i have the abilities to do more, but that seems kind of mean. i read it in a magazine, and then i tried it out on liz before we went to bed, i had it say, “good night liz.” so liz instant messages me and is like, “omg, my computron just lyke said ‘hood night liz’ to me!!!!!11!!!11one,” and then she added, “*good.”

classic.

memory card

i have thought of another thing i want for christmas, but i think i’m going to end up buying it myself because it’s pretty expensive. i need an SD memory card for my camera, and i think i’m going to get a 2gb one, because i have a 7mp camera and a 2gig would fit about 600 photos. but it costs like $30 on sale. hmm, that’s a conundrum.

9 mini mac apps i’d die without

QUICK TYPING
QUICKSILVER (http://quicksilver.blacktree.com)
allows me to hit a key command and then type in the beginning of a file/app name and it will give me a list of possible files (e.g. “fir” brings up firefox for me). very handy.

RAPIDOWRITE (http://app4mac.com)
keeps a list of abbreviations. when i type them, it brings up a word that i assigned to that abbreviation, and it’s inserted if i hit enter. handy for writing my last name, email address, etc.

ITUNES
SYNERGY (http://wincent.com/a/products/synergy-classic)
puts itunes command buttons in my menu bar so that i don’t have to search for itunes beneath all my windows. it also lets me assign keys for the commands. i made F1 play/pause, F2 previous, F3 next, and F4 brings up the song name and title.

FETCH ART (http://www.aric.org/fetchart)
finds the album art for all my itunes songs and copies it into the song info for me. this way i have album covers for all my music on my ‘pod.

PEARLYRICS (http://pearworks.com)
finds the lyrics for all my itunes songs and copies it into the song info for me. this way i have lyrics for all my music on my ‘pod. this program is no longer available, i had to search all over the net for a mirror. seems it violates some copyright laws or something.

THE DOCK
A-DOCK (http://jerome.foucher.free.fr/ADockX/ADockX.html)
gives me a second dock, which i put on the side. it shows my disks/trash and all the open apps. i also put in icons for my home directory and my app folder, since i use those the most.

DOCKFUN (http://www.donelleschi.com/dockfun)
allows me to have alternate docks for my main one. i have a regular dock (full of icons), and 4 alternates: web design, school, multimedia, and games. i can switch through them via a button on the menu bar.

OTHER
GMAIL NOTIFIER (http://mail.google.com/mail/help/notifier)
alerts me when i have a new email. i have a personalized alert, a quip from monty python and the holy grail (*arrow’d* message for you sir!). i can also click the button in the menu bar to see the messages’ senders and subjects.

PTHPASTEBOARD (http://pth.com)
remembers what i have copied in my clipboard. it saves the last 100 copies. i really like this because i often find myself needing to copy three things at once.

the speakers situation

well, i finally remembered to try plugging in my headphones when my speakers cut out, and i discovered that the headphones wouldn’t work either. so this means external speakers won’t help, because my speakers aren’t broken, my audio card is failing. uh, what now dad?

i really am a dork

Pure Dork
39 % Nerd, 47% Geek, 69% Dork

You scored better than half in Dork, earning you the title of: Pure Dork. Like our friends Napoleon Dynamite & co.

It’s not as though you were some whiz-kid in school. Oh, sure, you probably did okay in some classes, but were probably awful in others. Certainly most people thought you were smarter than you thought yourself to be. And it’s not that you have some overriding passion, like computers or Star Trek that sets you apart for the crowd, though you likely share some interest in some of those sorts of things. You just like to be yourself, and want to express yourself for who you are.

And, really, there’s nothing wrong with that. Being who you are often invites scorn, and so it’s a difficult thing in a world that rewards conformity. Be proud of your dorkiness, for often it’s just another word for individuality. (I’d vote for you!)

Congratulations!

Take the Nerd? Geek? or Dork? Test.

i miss my imac

i’m experienceing withdrawal symptoms. my imac has only been in the shop for 5 hours, and i’m already missing it. i can’t sit at my desk anymore without reaching for the mouse or pressing the itunes play button on my keyboard. this is going to be the longest 4 days of my life!

but it’s all for the best.

{sleep}

i hope i can get this published before my computer shuts itself off again. it used to do it eve

{sleep}

-ry once and awhile (like once a week or so), but it’s doing it every day now and it’s driving me

{sleep}

CRAZY. i’ve got to tell my dad, i hope he can fix it or help me find out where i can get it fixed.

in other news, school was meh, since i didn’t have any frees. economics is insane, the work load is killing me already. oh yeah, i’m selling coupon books in chorus, so it you want one, let me know.

{sleep}

oh, and i got my night license : )

my poor imac

mkay. my computer is lame. it keeps going to sleep for no reason as i am still using it. and when i wake it, it’ll keep going back to sleep until i let it sleep for awhile. so i checked out the apple forums and have discovered that my imac g5 has a serial number that qualifies it for the imac g5 repair extension program. i’ve gathered that my power supply unit is failing, because my system.log says: “thermal manager: max temperature exceeded for 30 seconds, forcing system sleep.” the people on the forums say that this probably means that my power supply unit isn’t making the fans work enough to cool the computer and it’s overheating.

this is bad news.
