QUICK TYPING
QUICKSILVER (http://quicksilver.blacktree.com)
allows me to hit a key command and then type in the beginning of a file/app name and it will give me a list of possible files (e.g. “fir” brings up firefox for me). very handy.
RAPIDOWRITE (http://app4mac.com)
keeps a list of abbreviations. when i type them, it brings up a word that i assigned to that abbreviation, and it’s inserted if i hit enter. handy for writing my last name, email address, etc.
ITUNES
SYNERGY (http://wincent.com/a/products/synergy-classic)
puts itunes command buttons in my menu bar so that i don’t have to search for itunes beneath all my windows. it also lets me assign keys for the commands. i made F1 play/pause, F2 previous, F3 next, and F4 brings up the song name and title.
FETCH ART (http://www.aric.org/fetchart)
finds the album art for all my itunes songs and copies it into the song info for me. this way i have album covers for all my music on my ‘pod.
PEARLYRICS (http://pearworks.com)
finds the lyrics for all my itunes songs and copies it into the song info for me. this way i have lyrics for all my music on my ‘pod. this program is no longer available, i had to search all over the net for a mirror. seems it violates some copyright laws or something.
THE DOCK
A-DOCK (http://jerome.foucher.free.fr/ADockX/ADockX.html)
gives me a second dock, which i put on the side. it shows my disks/trash and all the open apps. i also put in icons for my home directory and my app folder, since i use those the most.
DOCKFUN (http://www.donelleschi.com/dockfun)
allows me to have alternate docks for my main one. i have a regular dock (full of icons), and 4 alternates: web design, school, multimedia, and games. i can switch through them via a button on the menu bar.
OTHER
GMAIL NOTIFIER (http://mail.google.com/mail/help/notifier)
alerts me when i have a new email. i have a personalized alert, a quip from monty python and the holy grail (*arrow’d* message for you sir!). i can also click the button in the menu bar to see the messages’ senders and subjects.
PTHPASTEBOARD (http://pth.com)
remembers what i have copied in my clipboard. it saves the last 100 copies. i really like this because i often find myself needing to copy three things at once.
