(dr.) spoons the snowman

IMG_3737 IMG_3744

inspired by msm00nlight, lindsey and i made a snowman, and named it spoons.

“doctor spoons” is his real name, but megan told us it was too creepy because it made her think he was going to gut her. megan is obviously insane. that snowman is too cute to gut anyone. (although someone will probably ignore his cuteness and kick him before morning, for sure.)

doctor spoons may just be the best fake doctor there is. yes, perhaps even better than dr. horrible. but obviously not better than dr pepper. or dr. lan. because i’m dr. lan, duh.

broomball, games 2-3

sunday, 10pm
we played really well this game, definitely brought our skills up a notch. but alas, we still lost 0-1. but that was MUCH better than our first game. this might have been because we played on half of the rink instead of the whole thing, but who knows.

tuesday, 1am
our last game for the season! we left christine in goal for the majority of the game so that we could have two boys on offense (four teammates play at a time, two have to be boys, two have to be girls). this was apparently a really fantastic idea, because we won the game 2-1! our first time making any goals, and our first time winning! the only goal we let in occurred toward the end when we put a boy in goal, haha!

MTC

last night i went to the MTC (musical theater club) show! it was AMAZING, as always. they work all semester at directing, composing, and choreographing a musical revue. then they open for a weekend (thursday-saturday), and people get to see the show for free! but since it’s so amazing, and free, you have to get there around 6:30 for the 8:00 show so you can get a spot in line. i went with a big group of people, so it wasn’t boring to wait in line. i brought my ipod and rubik’s cube : )

the show was top-notch. even the skits in between the numbers were good this year (last year they were mostly inside jokes that the audience didn’t get). one of the funniest part is always the front row. all the MTC alumni sit there, and they spend most of the show commenting very loudly on the show. the best is when the transitions between acts were slow, the front row was all over those!

my favorite number was “murder, murder” from jekyll and hyde. it began with a skit about the freshman girls that just joined. they were talking about how great they were. the upperclass girls came on and heard what they were saying and murdered a few. then “murder, murder” started, and throughout the number more kept dying. it was hilarious.

basically, the show rocked.

broomball

IMG_3713

at 1:30am, tuesday night, my friends and i had our first broomball game of the season! because it was so late at night, i went to sleep after i watched house and got up around 12:30am to get ready.

our team name is “cool runnings,” and there are four boys and ten girls on the team. none of us have played before, save two of the guys, so we kind of suck. we lost 0-4. hahaha.

but broomball is super fun! for those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s similar to ice hockey, but you wear sneakers instead of skates and you use a different sort of stick and ball. it’s actually not that hard to run on the ice — i didn’t fall once the whole game. haha, but some of my teammates did : P

next game we’re going to work on our strategy, because basically all five of our players on the ice would try to get a goal, leaving no one to defend our side except the goalie, and it’s hard to sprint back to the other side when there’s a break-away. lol.

our awesome night

“what, no post about our awesome night?” — liz.

whoops! i totally meant to post one, i swear! anyways, saturday for me was spent home in brighton. and it was a super cool saturday, indeed.

visited record archive:
first stop, record archive (duh!). i limited myself (what!?!) to twenty bucks, so i got 4 cds: the wombats’ self-titled, fiery furnaces’s EP, ben lee’s breathing tornados, and the pipettes’ we are the pipettes. good haul, i’d say.

hung out with jon:
we hung out at his house for a bit and i folded socks, and then we went to the mall. he wanted a new t-shirt, so we looked around for ones that he liked and weren’t ridiculously expensive ($65 for a t-shirt? WTF?). oh, and i went in against all odds for the first time, which was exciting.

saw noises off at BHS:
OMG. so liz and i went to see noises off at the high school. it was AMAZING. like seriously the best play i’ve seen at the high school. maybe even the best play i’ve seen ever, since i haven’t seen many elsewhere. i laughed so much that my stomach hurt a ridiculous amount. and the acting was superb. mrs. shomper, my old english teacher directed, so i talked to her during intermission and she attacked me with her arms (i.e. she hugged me). but seriously, best show ever. i’m in shock, for reals.

ate at red robin:
liz and i went out afterwards and it was delicious.

drove back to the ’seo:
liz and i drove back to geneseo, because i thought our suite would be hopping. it was not. in fact, it was just me and tommi until 2am. haha oh well.

college geneseo schedule
4-24

yesterday morning

6:00am - woke up and got ready for my field visit (in other words, i put on fancy clothes and a wig).

6:45am - moved the car from the far parking lot to the loading dock.

6:55am
- ran outside and “moved” the car to avoid getting a ticket for parking illegally in said loading dock.

7:00am - registered for spring semester classes. because i came in with zero credits (word of advice: take APs in high school! you’ll regret it if you don’t!), i register fairly late, barely before most freshmen. for this reason, i could only get into three classes that i need for my degree. that was 10 credits. you need 12 at least to be a full-time student. i was aiming for 15.

7:15am - got in the car and headed off to my field visit with four other girls from my class.

8:00am - arrived at rochester city school #9 without losing any of the cars that were following mine. a student escorted us to the library to wait for the principal.

9:05am - got talked to by the two assistant principals, after waiting in the library for an hour and fifteen minutes. considering that we’re only there until 10:30am, this was kind of disappointing.

9:10am - we paired off and another student and i went to a second grade classroom to observe. we watched them during their music time (no music room, the teacher comes to them), and we did the cha cha slide! this particular field visit made me feel like i was at work again, because we didn’t do a lot of observing — most of the time was spent giving spelling tests, keeping students quiet and on task, and escorting students about the building. but it was cool to see how an urban school works. and when i say urban, i mean urban. 99-100% minorities, and right across from the projects.

11:30am - arrived back at geneseo. i changed and ate lunch with lauren.

12:30pm - took a calc. III test. ugh. let’s not talk about that.

1:45pm - the weekend began and my insane morning was officially over.

ETA: i found two more classes to take, so i’m up to 14 credits! yay! i’ll post my schedule later.

happy halloween!

yeah, halloween really isn’t that exciting when you’re in college. wait, let me rephrase that — halloween really isn’t that exciting when you’re in college and you don’t drink.

anyways, i dressed up as jim halpert again for halloween. my third time. last year and the year before i was a three-hole punch version of lan.

ETA: suite halloween photos are up! kaitlin took all these, as my camera battery was dead.

insane in the membrane

everything has been super crazy here in genesee AGC this weekend. i wish i could say more, but i cannot. i will say that it involved people that are my roommates, people that are not my roommates, and people that drive in cars with flashy lights.

phi eta sigma

yesterday i was inducted into the phi eta sigma national honor society. if you didn’t know, brighton doesn’t have honors, and doesn’t even assign rank. so it was pretty cool.

that is all.

a few updates

(1) i’m back at geneseo, as fall break ends today. when i got here i discovered that my key card was mysteriously deactivated, something that i unfortunately experienced last year too. sucks not being able to get in your dorm, especially when you have errands to run. luckily i was able to get a replacement because it’s a weekday, not like last time when it was a friday night. that was terrible.

(2) my mom found our GPS! a day after i bought a new one. *headdesk*

(3) i redyed my hair on saturday. it’s super bright. my roommates claim it’s brighter than it has ever been before… dun dun dun.
