new job

i work for the brighton central school district now! for those who don’t know, that’s the school district that i went to for my whole K-12 education.

i’m a substitute paraprofessional. basically i fill in for anyone that’s out (besides teachers). andy from brighton rec recommended it to me, and i’m really excited to start. the substitute caller calls me around 6am when they need me, and i either go to council rock primary school (aka CRPS) or french road elementary school (aka FRES). so far i have gotten one call, but it was canceled an hour later. that kind of sucked, but the caller promised she’d put me at the top of the list for next time.

and yes, it’s only for a month until school lets out. but i’d be on the list to work any day of any break that i have off next year at geneseo. plus i’m now on the payroll for the school district that i’d eventually like to work at when i get my education degree. and for now they’re okay with my pink hair : )

selling stuff

i found this really cool website called etsty. it’s pretty much like a ebay-type marketplace for stuff you make. i bought two scrabble rings and a pair of lego earrings.

i was thinking about opening up my own store. the thing is, you need a credit or debit card to do it, since they take 3 cents on every dollar you earn (but that’s totally worth it). i applied for a credit card and a debit card from my bank, but i have absolutely no idea when they’ll be coming. hopefully soon, because i’ve already started making new stuff. so far i’ve made four large plastic bead necklaces, two safety pin and glass bead necklaces, two large plastic bead bracelets, and four artsy buttons. and that’s just the stuff i made today! if i can sell all that i’d make about 100 bucks after they take their 3%. i think this is a cool idea.

career meme

1. Go to http://www.careercruising.com.
2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark.
3. Take their “Career Matchmaker” questions.
4. Post the top ten results.

1. Special Education Teacher
2. Elementary School Teacher
3. Librarian
4. Child and Youth Worker
5. Early Childhood Educator
6. High School Teacher
7. Lifeguard
8. Sports Instructor
9. Library Technician
10. Teacher Assistant

i’m pretty cool with that. i’ve considered almost all of those in the past (except sports instructor—HA!). i really do think that i’ll declare next semester. and i’m fairly certain it’s going to be education (i’m on the fence between early childhood and just childhood).

and i understand that this is going to be a ton of work, but the only thing i can really picture myself doing when i’m older is something with kids. when i was younger, in maybe fourth grade, i wanted to be a teacher. so every day after liz and i got home from school we would go downstairs to the chalkboard my mom set up for us and i would pretend to be lizzie’s teacher. i even made her do homework, and i sometimes gave her detention (except i spelled it detenshun). i was awesome.

oh, by the way

i was thinking about what i want to do when i graduate college, and i’m really stuck. i was thinking that i should do something that i really enjoy, but that really isn’t plausible. currently in my life the only things i actually still find joy in are my job and the internet. and i can’t make a career out of my job, since i just watch children for three hours a day for minimum wage (benifiting the kids and myself, i have a really fun time). jobs aren’t supposed to be fun. and i’m not even going to discuss why the internet can’t be my job (lolz).

if anyone knows of any jobs that involve doing what i do at brighton rec. or the internet, let me know asap.

i choo choo choose you

so, tomorrow is valentine’s day (hmm, yeah). i made buttons tonight that say, check this, happy valentine’s day on them. that is all i have to say about this holiday, it’s not really very exciting. well, not now. hopefully in the future it will be, but let’s not get into that.

today i found out that if you work more than 40 hours in one week, you get overtime pay. which is awesome because next week i’m going to be working 46.25 hours. and overtime is your wage plus half. so i’m actually pretty excited. i’m going to be getting a month and a week’s worth of pay in 5 days. fantastic.

brighton rec jobz nothing at all

thanks c.c.

happy columbus day. and thanksgiving (to you canadians).

in other news, i’m working on a surprise for the site, i think (but hope) you’ll like it.

i start work tomorrow after school. i don’t have to ride the bus luckily, my mom’s going to take me (this is because i forgot to call the bus garage, whoops). i think it’s going to be fun, actually. i’m having a problem distiguishing between my afterschool days and my summer camp days, so i’m looking forward to remember what exactly goes on at the ol’ afterschool program.
