so, on wednesday liz, curls, and i piled in the car and headed to waterstreet, obvs for the mc lars concert. three bands opened for him, patent pending, the levar burtones, and suburban legends. of course, none of them really appealed to me, but the burtone’s ska was tolerable. the suburban legends played ska too, and they also had awesome choreographed dance moves, so that was okay.
mc lars did space game, igeneration, download this song, mr. raven, ahab, generic crunk rap, hipster girl, 21 concepts, hot topic is not punk rock, signing emo, and hurricane fresh (yes!). he did not play my two favourite though—rapgirl and if i had a time machine, that would be fresh. so that made me slightly sad.
on a music-quality level, i preferred when mc lars performed with a live band last time, opposed to his garage band accompaniment that he had this time. it’s just not as dynamic without it. but he did have a slideshow to go along with it, so that was cool.
i got pushed to the front of the stage when they were moshing, and i could not for the life of me get back to the middle where i was. so i spent the rest of the time in the front, constantly being sucked into the mosh pit. i don’t like being in close proximity of other people, but i could not get out of there. i lost a shoe in the middle of the show and couldn’t find it until the end, so my toes got stepped on a lot (oh, and after looking around for a bit, i eventually did find it, fyi). but i think i actually enjoyed it, it was a lot more intense.
after the show i talked to lars and he told me that he remembered me from the last show, which was really really really cool. and then he signed my new mc lars t-shirt: lanni, you are fresh. -mc lars. he also wrote a heart on it, which leads me to the conclusion that he’s in love with me. ha ha ha , obvs not for realz. he also signed my poster. he’s awesome. we talked a bit about macs, because he does his “post-punk laptop rap” on his macbook. which reminds me, liz and i were the only people that shouted when mc lars mentioned acquisition before “download this song.” hilarious.
