we like to rock the party

so i’ve been at FRES this week, in the same classroom as last week. it’s looking to be a long-term position. well, if a few weeks counts as being long term.

today was field day, which i vaguely recall from my elementary years as being the best friggin’ day ever. but it’s not really field “day” anymore, it’s now just field “hour and a half.” instead of each grade having an entire day to do fun stuff, all three grades do it on the same day. well whatever, it was still fun. and saying “do your work or you’ll have to sit out during field day” is a great motivation tool.

fun fact of the day:
ever wonder what continent new zealand is part of? i know i did. you see, on the 3rd grade atlas in my classroom, all the countries are colored to indicate the continent they belong to, all except new zealand. it was gray. so i asked my dad, and even he didn’t know.

the answer? it belongs to a continent called “zealandia.” turns out that there aren’t just 7 continents, there are other smaller ones too. this particular one seems very small because almost all of it is underwater. who knew?

P.S. OBAMA ‘08 FTW!

1. i got a 95 on my calc test! calc seems to be the only subject i’m excelling at this year. good thing i picked a math concentration, eh?

2. best sub ever? seeded roll, chicken strips, american cheese, onions, carrots, and hot sauce.

3. stabby’s coming up to geneseo on friday! my mom is going to come pick me up, then i’m going to drive to oswego (dropping my mom off in rochester) and drive her here to geneseo. then she’s staying the night. we’re going to go to the hockey game (which is coincidentally against oswego) and see that musical i’m required to see for theatre (i think it’s called “pacific overtures”) on saturday. it should be a good time.

4. so, let’s talk about the WGA strike. while it does mean that i probably won’t see a new office episode for a very long time, i do support it. if you haven’t read much about it, here’s a short synopsis. basically, members of the writer’s guild of america are on strike because the large corporations that run their shows aren’t giving them their fair share of the profits. you know how this year all shows are available online to watch after it’s shown on tv? the writers get money for the showings on tv, but not for the showings on the internet. and this is not fair to them. they deserve to go on strike, and they deserve compensation for all their hard work.

5. i’d also like to talk about two office rumors that i’ve heard. the first thing i’ve heard is that they are making a spinoff of the office that would basically be the same thing, but at a different office, headed by a current cast member. the second thing i’ve heard is that in lieu of new episodes, they will be showing reruns of the uk version. anyone know if either of these are true?

6. it’s cold here. very very cold.

first and formost, my condolences to anyone involved in or affected by the virginia tech shootings. it’s a truely horrific event and please think about wearing maroon and orange tomorrow in rememberence of the 32 people that died.

in my personal life, well, today was monday/the first day back. so i’ll leave to draw your own conclusions. let me just say that they involve yawn-factorness and the like.
