our awesome night

“what, no post about our awesome night?” — liz.

whoops! i totally meant to post one, i swear! anyways, saturday for me was spent home in brighton. and it was a super cool saturday, indeed.

visited record archive:
first stop, record archive (duh!). i limited myself (what!?!) to twenty bucks, so i got 4 cds: the wombats’ self-titled, fiery furnaces’s EP, ben lee’s breathing tornados, and the pipettes’ we are the pipettes. good haul, i’d say.

hung out with jon:
we hung out at his house for a bit and i folded socks, and then we went to the mall. he wanted a new t-shirt, so we looked around for ones that he liked and weren’t ridiculously expensive ($65 for a t-shirt? WTF?). oh, and i went in against all odds for the first time, which was exciting.

saw noises off at BHS:
OMG. so liz and i went to see noises off at the high school. it was AMAZING. like seriously the best play i’ve seen at the high school. maybe even the best play i’ve seen ever, since i haven’t seen many elsewhere. i laughed so much that my stomach hurt a ridiculous amount. and the acting was superb. mrs. shomper, my old english teacher directed, so i talked to her during intermission and she attacked me with her arms (i.e. she hugged me). but seriously, best show ever. i’m in shock, for reals.

ate at red robin:
liz and i went out afterwards and it was delicious.

drove back to the ’seo:
liz and i drove back to geneseo, because i thought our suite would be hopping. it was not. in fact, it was just me and tommi until 2am. haha oh well.

paper or plastic

i think i spent more money this weekend than i did the entire month of february. i think this is a fairly good reason to not go home to rochester too often.

friday: miscellaneous rochester outings
- spent $22 on a haircut at world hair
- spent $0 at utter clutter on broken rotary phone in seafoam blue (had a coupon)
- spent $5 to attend the hoops for hillside game (the faculty basketball game at my high school)
- spent $15 on dinner at red robin with liz
- spent $10 on a movie ticket to see be kind rewind with abby and her roommate liv

saturday: hung out with stabby and liv
- spent $15 on dinner at mac grill
- spent $3 at target to get some cute eco-safe bags
- spent $10 at wegmans to get a new laundry hamper
- spent $10 on a movie ticket to see penelope

sunday: went to the mall with my roommate megan and my friend janine
- spent $1 at the icing on 3 headbands that were on clearance
- spent $5 on lunch at arby’s
- spent $11 at american eagle (what?) on a neon pink belt
- spent $15 at old navy on a pair of blue plaid shorts

i’m not even going to add that up, it’ll make me too depressed. at least i had an awesome weekend!

REUNION
our high school class’s first reunion was today. kate and i had lunch and then drove over. i saw lots of people i haven’t seen in a few months (chelsea, michaela, kayla, dinah, etc.), several teachers i didn’t mind so much (mrs. palmer, mr. hiller, mr. mitchell, etc.), and some people i’ve actually seen recently (liz, mike, leah, etc.). so all in all a good time.

WORK

the children put stickers on me this afternoon.

i also have a little story about today. so, we were in the gym. it was me and four other counselors. they were trying to start a game, but the kids wouldn’t be quiet or sit still. the other counselors spent about ten minutes trying to individually quiet kids by either giving them empty threats or yelling at them. after realizing that they were only making things worse, i stepped in and told them all to stop talking to the kids, to ignore them completely until they realized that we were not going to begin until they were quiet. the entire effort took about 25 minutes, but it was completely worth it because it actually worked. i felt really proud.

MOVIES
i saw national treasure 2 tonight! it was pretty awesome. although highly unbelievable. but i still loved it. i really love big history conspiracies like that. that’s why i loved the davinci code and angels & demons. they’re just so interesting. i’m lame like that.

MUSIC
the fiery furnaces are playing at the bug jar on january 21! but the thing about the bug jar is it’s 18+. who would i go with? now that i think about it, i don’t think i have any friends that like them. hmm.

bhs homecoming

guess where i am? home. again. i came back for the brighton hs homecoming game, and to watch the episode of house i taped from tuesday.

i drove myself and liz to the game, and she ditched me as soon as we got there. alexis (a 5th grader i’ve known since before i was in 5th grade) talked to me for awhile, and then phil came over and we we quoted the office. i saw a lot of my classmates, actually. then mike finally found me, and i spent the rest of the night with him (he’s a 10th grader that was in my art class last year). he’s got a good taste in music, we mailed each other a bunch of cd’s last week. we spent most of the night walking around, because i never actually watch the football game (i don’t really understand football. mike tried to explain it, but like others before, he failed). he let me listen to his ipod too, which was cool. i also saw a ton of kids from work, and got plenty hugs. haha, when mike asked if i wanted to walk in front of the bleachers, i said that everyone would talk to me and it would take forever to get all the way across. well, people did talk to me, and it did take forever. i never realized how many people i knew that weren’t in my grade. anyway, it was a good night. i miss high school.

graduation!

I AM OFFICIALLY A FRIGGIN’ GRADUATE OF BRIGHTON HIGH SCHOOL, CLASS OF 2007!

graduation was at 7 at the eastman theater, and it lasted until 9:45. i wore the pink shoes i had bought for ball but didn’t wear, and because they are the exact shade of my hair, i got a LOT of compliments. hah. my diploma is pretty sweet, it says my name on it, spelled correctly. the whole event was kind of a blur, but i do remember ms. boyd reading my name and me walking across the stage, where i shook hands with mr. hall and mrs. hackett, who gave me said diploma. then we posed for a photo (or i think we did, i can’t actually remember that part). the last two students, with Z last names, stayed up on stage to move their tassels over, and when they did they unzipped their gowns and revealed t-shirts that read “THE” and “END.” it was awesome.

i’ll post some photos tomorrow, my dad took a bunch.

P.S. i started this blog the first day of high school. can you believe it’s been four years already?

later gator

so today was the last day of after school (forever, i can’t work in brighton next year). i’m very sad, because it was pretty much the best job ever, even though i got minimum wage. i’m going to miss it a lot. i guess this is the last time i can use the ‘asp’ tag. i hope i can find a job as amazing as this one was in geneseo.

i graduate tomorrow. this is insane. i have to take the physics regents exam tomorrow morning. this is insane.

rehearsal/darien lake

today was our graduation rehearsal (nothing to write home about there, it was pretty much a meeting about graduation, and we sat in the seats that we’ll sit in on thursday). but afterwards was the class trip to darien lake amusement park, which was much more exciting.

on the way there, we drove through a thunder/lightning storm, and it was so bad that our driver made us put our seat belts on. but when we arrived it was over, luckily. first we (me, stabby, dinah, and lina) headed to the water park, but since i just dyed my hair last night, i couldn’t go on. so i waited at a picnic table a rubix’s cubed slash talked to people. after that we hit the rides. we went on the predator (the wooden rollar coaster that kind of hurts to go on), the boomerang (goes forwards and then backwards), the viper (the green one with the loops), and… lina and i went on the skycoaster! it was basically the awesomest ride i have ever been on. it was so worth the 25 bucks you have to pay to go on. it’s a 180 foot drop, and you go up to 63 mph. it’s insane. i got to pull the rip cord, it was so cool.

IMG_1900

after we got off a ride we headed towards the games, but it got dark all of the sudden and started to rain. we decided to duck under a food booth shelter to wait it out. well, instead of letting up quickly it started to pour and by then there was a large crowd under the shelter. it was thundering and lightning and everything was wet. the closed all the rides, so we just stood there for a half an hour until it got lighter, and then we ran to the game building. they played lots of games while we waited for the rain to stop (i don’t play games, waste of money). it never did stop raining though, so i put a plastic garbage over me with a hole for my head and we walked around in the rain for the rest of the time. when we got on the bus, everyone was soaked, but we had a great time.

nice wheelbarrow, ernie

so, that pre-calculus exam. yeah. i’m not going to lie, i struggled with it. i think i pulled off at least a B though. i finished in two hours and 45 minutes, which wasn’t bad considering it was a three hour exam. i wonder when we get our grades…

work was considerably better today. no you-know-who, and we only had like 20 kids, so it was nice and quiet. but then the boys bathroom flooded, because someone put a roll of tp in the urinal and flushed it. since shawn (the custodian) is out because he and katie (the aquatics director) just had a baby, matt (the athletic director) was the only boy on staff, so he had to mop. poor guy. we gathered all the boys and had a talk with them, but no one confessed. then i remembered when earlier that day, two underclassmen boys from my school had walked down the hall and shut off all the light switches. i thought that maybe they did it, since they passed by the bathroom. but we had no way to know. then, when we were outside, we saw them with wheelbarrows on the edge of the property, which they soon rolled away from the school and into the neighborhood. the kids thought one of the kids looked like ernie, a custodian that worked at their school and now works at mine, who used to be in my class but dropped out. so they’re yelling, “hey, watcha doing with that wheelbarrow?”… “yeah, ernie, whatcha doing?”… “ernie, come back, we want to ask you something!”… “ernie, ernie!” he turned around every time they yelled, and after a few minutes of this he took off in a full sprint towards the road off the property. it was the strangest thing ever.

you like to read, right?

so good ol’ mrs. shomper informed me that i got 100 on my final project, which rocks. but then she told me that the self-score rubric we filled out would be averaged with her grade. i gave myself an 84, because i didn’t want to make it look like i think i know everything. so i get a 92. knowing that i should have 100 makes me kind of mad though.

there’s this girl at work who speaks little english. she often throws temper tantrums, screaming and yelling words we don’t understand, and sometimes we don’t even know why she’s upset. recently she’s become obsessed with pokemon cards, to the point where if the other children don’t give her their’s, she throws a tantrum. so today we told the kids “no pokemon cards,” hoping we’d avoid the little scene that occurred yesterday again. nope, right when she hears the new rule, right out in the hall, she yells and cries and generally just freaks out. i tried for awhile to calm her down, and then becky arrived and tried too. out of the blue she snapped out of it and stopped and went into the classroom. she’s pretty much the reason i haven’t been raving about how wonderful work is.

but it is wonderful, otherwise. today one of the boys accidentally threw a doll onto the roof when he was making it do acrobatics outside. after a few minutes of throwing the soccer ball at it, we decided to go find the wiffleball bat and try that. it was too short. so i stacked miscellaneous kids on my shoulders, progressing to taller and taller kids. but no one could reach. so then carly came over and she’s like, hey louise, let me get on. so i tried, but i couldn’t straighten my legs out, and we fell (onto the grass). we actually tried twice, the second time just as disastrous. after we went back in, i taped two hockey sticks together with duct tape and brought my contraption and a folding chair outside when there weren’t many kids left. i spent a good 20 minutes trying to knock it off. a soccer mom passed by and for awhile she directed me on which way to move the hockey sticks, because i couldn’t see over the edge. she soon gave up, but later three young lacrosse players passed by and with their help i was able to get it down. louise is the hero of the day, it seems.

signed, louise

I AM FUCKING DONE WITH HIGH SCHOOL.

do you know what the craziest part is? it still hasn’t sunk in that i’m never going attend a class brighton high school. i’m never going to another homeroom. i’m never going to rush to get from the 4th floor south to 1st floor north in 5 minutes. i’m never going to cram in a lunch between said passing time. i’m never going to sit in front of my locker watching the office on my ipod. i’m never going to arrive at school at 6:55am and wait in the cafeteria for school to begin at 7:45am. i’m never going to drive to the mall 3rd and 4th periods with my friends just to go to the food court because we can never pick a place everyone likes. i’m never going to walk to the church next door to catch a ride with melissa to work at 2:45. i’m never going to sneak a dr pepper into the library and drink it behind my textbook. i’m never going to score extra tator tots from that cafeteria lady. i’m never going to get another pass out of class from mrs. o’brien for no reason. i’m never going to walk to twelve corners plaza from school to buy gum. i’m never going to be able to sit with my friends outside as a big group doing nothing at all. i’m never going to another gym class. i’m never going to get yelled at for wearing sunglasses during class. and most of all, i’m never going to easily get good grades ever again.

i liked high school. i LOVED high school. i think it’s probably going to be the best part of my life. see you around, brighton high.

ETA: there it goes, it just sunk in. thanks a lot, blog.
