roc city

today was spent at four of the roc city’s finest hangouts:

(1) world hair. i got a haircut, obvs.

(2) utter clutter. your basic thrift shop, but messier. it’s owned by a lady named sara that likes to give free stuff to you on your birthday if you make friends with her. and i do advise that you do, because she’s been known to overcharge rude people and undercharge people she likes : )

(3) aaron’s alley. a hippie shop that sells… hippie stuff. i got a new tie-dye, liz got new hemp bracelets. i actually spent most of the time on the floor looking through boxes of tie-dye and then i spent even more time refolding the shirts. someone actually thought i worked there.

(4) record archive. everyone knows this is my favorite hangout of all hangouts. just this week i’ve been there twice and i’ve bought nine new albums. today they were filming their new tv commerical, and they taped liz and i singing the record archive jingle and laughing our heads off. it was a good time.

TWO MORE DAYS ‘TIL GENESEO!

paper or plastic

i think i spent more money this weekend than i did the entire month of february. i think this is a fairly good reason to not go home to rochester too often.

friday: miscellaneous rochester outings
- spent $22 on a haircut at world hair
- spent $0 at utter clutter on broken rotary phone in seafoam blue (had a coupon)
- spent $5 to attend the hoops for hillside game (the faculty basketball game at my high school)
- spent $15 on dinner at red robin with liz
- spent $10 on a movie ticket to see be kind rewind with abby and her roommate liv

saturday: hung out with stabby and liv
- spent $15 on dinner at mac grill
- spent $3 at target to get some cute eco-safe bags
- spent $10 at wegmans to get a new laundry hamper
- spent $10 on a movie ticket to see penelope

sunday: went to the mall with my roommate megan and my friend janine
- spent $1 at the icing on 3 headbands that were on clearance
- spent $5 on lunch at arby’s
- spent $11 at american eagle (what?) on a neon pink belt
- spent $15 at old navy on a pair of blue plaid shorts

i’m not even going to add that up, it’ll make me too depressed. at least i had an awesome weekend!

quite a day

so i went to the mall with liz yesterday. you know what that means: constant staring and having to deal with random people talking about my hair as i pass by. but whatever, i kind of like it now. the best was when a little girl was with her mom about 20 feet behind us. i heard her yell, “PINK HAIR!” and then liz was like, “watch out lan!” i was able to turn around to see the girl running straight for me. but then her mom yelled and she stopped and went back. five minutes later she was still behind us, and she ran at me again, seemingly with her mother’s permission this time, and pulled on my pant leg because i was facing the other direction talking to liz. i turned around and looked at her and she said, “hi! you’re pretty!” and ran back to her mom.

and later that night i hung out with mike. this is when i manged to visit record archive not just once, not twice, but three times in a 5 hour span. you see, when we made plans, i obviously did not take note of the fact he needed a ride, so i’m like at record archive (visit 1) and he calls asking where i am. headdesk much? so i go pick him up and drive back (visit 2). we spent a few hours there, and i got plenty of albums for only $29.62 with tax (bulit to spill: ancient melodies of the future, lostprophets: liberation transmission, the cranberries: wake up and smell the coffee, pulp: separations, and barenaked ladies: rock spectacle).

after going through almost all the the cds and perusing every single vhs (including the classic movie how to hunt majestic elk, brought to you by chevrolet), we left to go to lakeshore. i would like to mention that this was the part of the evening when i parallel parked downtown. yes. anyways, nothing good at lakeshore (what’s new?), but we looked around for quite awhile. after deciding that lakeshore is… quaint, we went back to record archive (visit 3). we went through all the music one more time, because mike was looking for an album he couldn’t find at lakeshore or something. after a very necessary gas fill-up (extreme E) and a wegmans trip, i dropped him off at his house and i went home to be greeted by my parents, a horror movie on the tv, and some microwave burritos. good day.

shopping will be my downfall

converse chuck taylor all-star lo-tops in ‘magenta haze,’ to replace my ratty teal ones: $41.99

hot pink samsung SCH-U740 cellphone case with stars: $9.99

lucite heart necklace to replace the one i wear every day, because the paint is chipping off: $14.99

the aquabats logo sticker: $2.25

they might be giants sticker (3 pack): $5.00

GRAND TOTAL: $74.22! oh my god, this needs to stop, NOW. i can’t make it through college if i have another week like this. although i’d like to mention that it isn’t my fault my shoes crapped out on me. or that my calc teacher mentioned that it would be cool if my phone was pink much like my hair and bag is. or that i have a sticker-collecting addiction (fueled by the knowledge that i will own a car by this time next year, maybe).

itunes meme

today i went to record archive (oh how i missed thee) and bought eight new albums (one by atom and his package, one by the fiery furnaces, one by the flaming lips, one by third eye blind, one by the aquabats, and 3 barenaked ladies albums that i had as a kid but lost somehow). i would like to mention that they were all used cd’s, and at record archive all used cd’s are $5. anyways, i thought an itunes meme would be fitting. so…

number of songs: 2434
number of full albums: 133
most listened to song/artist: punk rock academy by atom and his package (974 plays)
most popular artist: they might be giants (257 tracks, 17 albums)
most recently added song/artist: quay cur by the fiery furnaces
first song/artist added: no place like home by $100 fine

if you can think of more categories to add, i’d love to hear them.

goo goo g’ joob

in theatre class today, instead of taking notes, we watched an improv performance. it was awesome, our teacher got all ready to start her lecture when all the sudden the door burst open at the back of the auditorium (there are 300 students in our class) in in dances a guy with a suit and sunglasses on carrying a boombox playing really loud music. everyone turned around in awe as he just danced there, shouting and giving the people in the back high-fives. we thought it was a big prank (our teacher is a good actress, she looked horrified), but soon 6 more boys came in and they filed down the aisles to the front. their show was amazing, i haven’t laughed that hard in awhile. i love improv.

i went back to the roc tonight to buy some new jeans (lol) and some crafty stuff. i got two pairs of levi 515s, beads, ribbon, charms, chain, stickers, et al. good haul.

HP5 3

mother and i went on a fairly extensive shopping excursion today. we got towels, a laundry hamper, a mattress pad, a desk lamp, closet organizers, and hair dye. we also got my new watch adjusted (it was way to big) and my ray-bans fixed. and later when i was out with stabby and gretchen, i bought a new harry potter shirt, and a new stars wars shirt. and later we went to see… hp5. again.

also, we watched the preview for the golden compass and can i just say that i am pretty friggin’ excited for it. the his dark materials books have been my second favorite series of books after harry potter since i got all three for christmas when i was 12.

cut for some additional comments about order of the phoenix.

happy 4th of july

so i have finally assembled the most kickass shopping cart on apple.com. it’s complete, and it’s what i’m going to buy. i’ve carefully researched every single item. the printer and ipod nano (which i must give to my dad) are both free items because i have rebates for both of them. so knock off $300 from the total right there. my parents are requiring me to get the applecare, so my mom said she’d pay for that. the laptop case had the highest rating and the best reviews of all of the cases for macbooks, so i’m going to deal with the fact that it’s boring-looking. and the mighty mouse had semi-okay reviews, but i took the time to actually read the reviews and those who didn’t like it said it was because it didn’t feel like a “regular” mouse, aka a two-button pc mouse. i used imac mouses for 5 years and have been using a regular mac mouse for 3, so this “problem,” as they call it, isn’t a problem for me.

MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - White
Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
200GB Serial ATA @ 4200 rpm
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2×1GB

$1,531.00

AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook/iBook - Auto-enroll

$183.00

HP Photosmart C4280 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier

$99.95

Marware Sportfolio for 13-inch MacBook (Black)

$39.95

Apple wireless Mighty Mouse

$69.00

iPod nano, 4GB - Blue

$199.00

not bad, i’d say.

and maps don’t help

i finally bought summer shorts today at old navy. i’ve been putting it off, but my 20% off coupon expired today, so i had to go. this kind of messed with my project-doing plan, but you know (it’s not like i didn’t see that coming). i bought two pairs of snazzy plaid shorts and a skirt for banquet (also plaid, actually).

i’d like to note that i did go to eastview mall, and i didn’t get (extremely) lost getting there and back. i took good ol’ jefferson road the whole way there, since i know i can’t get lost if i don’t have to turn at all. on the way home i thought i’d give 490 a try, and it went well until i noticed i was going past where i wanted to be, so i got off at winton rd, which is by my house, but i got off at the end near east ave. so i took winton across brighton to get home. so that was kind of pointless. my mom said i probably missed the sign for 590, which i was supposed to get on.

i’d also like to note that yes, i got lost last time i went to eastview. my mom said to take 590 north (entrance at winton rd.) until i reached 490 east. i thought i got on 590 north, but it turns out i got onto 590 south, which instead turns into 390. i noticed i was west, not east, when i reached the airport. good times. NOT.

stabby and i went shopping for ball stuff yesterday at the mall, mainly looking for shoes. stabby got some really cute ones, but i just couldn’t find any i liked. but today i found some online that i love and that match my dress/hair (aren’t they cute?) and i just ordered them, along with two bottles of atomic pink, because hot topic hasn’t had it in the store for a month, and i really need to do my roots.

i finished goblet of fire today. *sigh* all i can say is thank god july 21st is a saturday, because i’d be very tempted to skip work and lock myself in my bedroom if it wasn’t. damn it harry potter, why do you have to be so amazing?

which reminds me, i managed to convince a majority of the kids at work last thursday that harry potter was nonfiction. and i even managed to get a few of the younger ones to believe that i knew harry potter personally. and then someone drew the conclusion that i was actually nymphadora tonks, because she has famously pink hair, and she’s a metamorphmagus (look it up, you know the url for wikipedia). but i was soon outed by a 4th grader who had the second book and a vast knowledge of how to read the book info on the copyright page.

tomorrow begins another week. so yeah, that should be fun. not.
