i heart pink

i really really like pink. like a lot. after redying my hair yesterday, i realized that i may even like pink a bit too much. lol. i have found that pink hair sometimes limits my choices of clothing an accessories (for example, red shirts look terrible with my hair), but as a rule, i always say yes to pink. i included photos of what i mean under the cut : )

4 day weekend

i had a pretty swell memorial day weekend. highlights:
- i got to see stevie on sunday! i didn’t even know he was coming back until i got to a party at my aunt and uncle’s house and he was there! and now would be a good time for a shout-out to all the schlitzer’s who read this — hey guys.
- i saw two movies in theaters with jon this weekend — forgetting sarah marshall and speedracer. both were equally excellent.
- i “cleaned” my room. cleaned is in quotes because, i’m not going to lie, it wasn’t dirty to begin with. yet i am still able to find ways to tidy up. life is grand!
- my debit card is hidden (to prevent me from overspending, summer is killing me already!).
- my hair is repinked.

night to remember

well that was a night to remember. chronological list format to make it easier to comprehend. if you read the whole thing i’ll give you a prize.

1. megan, janine, lauren, tommi, lindsey, elly and i all piled on the bus at 5:30 — the plan was we’d take the bus to applebee’s, then walk to the movie theater to see leatherheads, and then… well, we weren’t sure how we’d get back to school. the night started off great when the bus driver “forgot” his route and we ended up looping around campus not once, but twice, on the way to applebee’s.

2. please note that the geneseo applebee’s is critically acclaimed for their record slow seating times and terrible service. when we got there, we waited for a good 45 minutes. at one point the hostess had us follow in a circle around the restaurant, then after noticing that there actually wasn’t an open table, she had us stand in a huddle in the middle of the restaurant until a table opened up… for 6 people. there are 7 of us. poor lindsey was stuck awkwardly on a barstool all night.

3. since it was raining, and the bus wasn’t coming for awhile, and megan’s friend liz had joined us halfway through the meal, we accepted the ride liz offered us in her 5 person car. yes, we fit 8 people in a 5 person car. ever fit 5 grown people in the backseat before? we have.

4. we ended up an hour early to the movie. while we bummed around the movie theater, i was approached by a woman asking if she could take a picture of me with her camera phone. turns out she had been at the restaurant at the same time as us. also turns out that there was already a picture of me on her phone. not even kidding.

5. leatherheads was so cute! not the funniest movie ever, but as everyone knows, i’m in love with john krasinski. so that instantly made the movie 500 times more enjoyable. not that it wasn’t, because, like i said, it was cute. gosh, i wish we still lived in the 20s. they dressed so awesome. geez, i’d make a terrible movie reviewer.

6. when the movie let out we realized that the bus doesn’t stop anywhere near the movie theater at night. but the schedule said it stopped at walmart at 11:10 (it was 11:10), and the movie theater is on the way back to campus. so we crossed the parking lot, ran across 20A, and waited. unfortunately, it was foggy as hell out, and we doubted the bus driver would be able to see us. by some crazy luck, the we saw the bus driving back to campus not a minute later, and all 7 us waved it down in the dark. it was amazing.

7. megan would like me to mention that “she is the best roommate ever,” and that “the whole world should know that.” fyi.

quite a day

so i went to the mall with liz yesterday. you know what that means: constant staring and having to deal with random people talking about my hair as i pass by. but whatever, i kind of like it now. the best was when a little girl was with her mom about 20 feet behind us. i heard her yell, “PINK HAIR!” and then liz was like, “watch out lan!” i was able to turn around to see the girl running straight for me. but then her mom yelled and she stopped and went back. five minutes later she was still behind us, and she ran at me again, seemingly with her mother’s permission this time, and pulled on my pant leg because i was facing the other direction talking to liz. i turned around and looked at her and she said, “hi! you’re pretty!” and ran back to her mom.

and later that night i hung out with mike. this is when i manged to visit record archive not just once, not twice, but three times in a 5 hour span. you see, when we made plans, i obviously did not take note of the fact he needed a ride, so i’m like at record archive (visit 1) and he calls asking where i am. headdesk much? so i go pick him up and drive back (visit 2). we spent a few hours there, and i got plenty of albums for only $29.62 with tax (bulit to spill: ancient melodies of the future, lostprophets: liberation transmission, the cranberries: wake up and smell the coffee, pulp: separations, and barenaked ladies: rock spectacle).

after going through almost all the the cds and perusing every single vhs (including the classic movie how to hunt majestic elk, brought to you by chevrolet), we left to go to lakeshore. i would like to mention that this was the part of the evening when i parallel parked downtown. yes. anyways, nothing good at lakeshore (what’s new?), but we looked around for quite awhile. after deciding that lakeshore is… quaint, we went back to record archive (visit 3). we went through all the music one more time, because mike was looking for an album he couldn’t find at lakeshore or something. after a very necessary gas fill-up (extreme E) and a wegmans trip, i dropped him off at his house and i went home to be greeted by my parents, a horror movie on the tv, and some microwave burritos. good day.

in calculus today we were learning about velocity derivatives, and our professor drew a map of new york state on the board with the nys thruway marked out, complete with exits and mile markers. accompanying this map was a velocity graph of a potential trip from yonkers to syracuse. we determined that the driver drove for two hours going 85 mph, then stopped for an hour, and drove 120 mph the rest of the way there.

since this doesn’t really make sense—firstly because the speed limit on the thruway is 65 mph, and secondly because the one hour stop didn’t occur anywhere near an exit—our teacher had us think up explanations of why this happened.

my explanation:
the driver was in a hurry so they drove a bit over the speed limit, until their moderately unreliable car began vibrating in a fairly nerve-wrecking way, so they pulled over. after an hour of trying to get the hood of the car open, but failing, and finally discovering that the lugnuts on the tires were unscrewed, they get back in the car. and to make up for lost time, and since the wheels are now very securely attached to the car, they drive two times the speed limit and make it to syracuse just in time.

my professor’s explanation:
the driver wasn’t really paying attention to the speedometer, so their speeding got them pulled over by a state trooper. it should have been a fairly routine thing, but the driver had pink hair. so the cop decided to search the entire car, including the very full trunk. after ripping through all the stuffed animals and going through all her stuff, he discovered that she was clean. by then it had been an hour, so the driver took off once again, this time going double the speed limit (obviously not learning her lesson).

lan’s hair!

so, i have pink hair. who knew? i spent about 2 hours writing this post (most of that time was taken up by me searching the wayback machine for photos that used to be on my blogspot blog, lol). it’s pretty much a chronicle of every single hair color i’ve had, complete with photo and description. enjoy.

MAY ‘03- OCT. ‘03: SPX BLUE MAYHEM

this was the first demi-permanent color that i ever did. i was in 8th grade and i was 13 years old (hence the dorky photo that i had to scan, because i didn’t have a digital camera then). before that i had bleached-blonde hair since 6th grade, so i experimented a lot with less permanent dyes that lasted a few washes. i really liked having blue hair, and i kept it blue for quite awhile.

the hair is pink

soooooooo, i redyed my hair today. it’s nice and bright—just the way i like it. ha ha, yesterday my parents and i were at a resturant and the manager comes up to our table and tells me that the small girl a few tables away would like you to know that she likes your hair and wants to dye hers just like yours. so i turned around and waved, and she waved back and smiled really big, then gave me a thumbs up. i usually say something along the lines of “i get that all the time,” but i actually can’t say that i have ever had that happen before. in fact, i don’t think the manager has ever come up to me to say anything, let alone something as silly as that.

i do get a lot of, “whoa, did you know your hair is pink?” to which i reply, “AAAHHHH! oh my god, why did no one tell me this before?!?!?!” i’m not stupid you know, i have a little thing i like to call VISION.

i have pink hair

you know what? i have had only pink hair for exactly one year now! i dyed it atomic pink in december of 2005, the month before it was red and blue. this is historic. having the same hair color all the time is so much easier, and better for my hair since i don’t have to bleach it all when i redye, because the bottom part is already pink.

which reminds me, i have to dye my roots soon.

exchanging

so i guess i’m doing an exchange with some students from franklin (a high school in the city) on friday. brighton has off that day, so i’m not going to be missing school (is that good or bad?). so far all i know is that about 8 of us are taking a bus there on friday and for the school day we are shadowing some students there. i was chosen along with the other 8 students because we are all of different backgrounds and such, so franklin can see that suburban schools aren’t all blonde white kids (says mr. mitchell). and i have pink hair, i think that’s the main reason mrs. o’brien recommended me (not really, obviously). so yeah, that’ll be cool. the students we shadow will also be coming to school with us next friday, so i’ll get to miss a bit of classes then to do orientations and such ; )

oh, it’s true, i have pink hair: proof in office form.

ETA: AND OMFG I NEED THIS. and this too.
