since this morning i have gotten a ridiculous amount of comment spam on old posts, so for the time being i have set the comment moderation to “comment author must have a previously approved comment” in order for it to avoid the moderation queue.

thanks to my dad, i have added two new wordpress plugins that i hope will solve this problem. comments are now back to how they were. thanks dad!

finally upgrading wordpress. i’m like 10 versions behind. these plugins will be the death of me, i swear.

super awesome day (for one of the first times this semester, so sorry if this post is braggy).

(1) i totally rocked my christopher columbus lesson plan presentation this morning! i was really nervous because it’s my first time writing a lesson plan, and my first time “teaching” one. but i felt pretty at ease throughout the lesson, the same sort of feeling i have when i explain gym games or craft projects at work. for my overall grade on the lesson i got an A, which is really awesome.

and to top it all off, my professor talked to me afterwards and said my lesson plan was “exceptionally well-done.” he asked me where i went last year, i said that i wasn’t a transfer, and he was surprised. apparently other schools start working on lesson plans freshman year, so when they transfer here they are ahead in that area. he actually said my lesson plan was teacher- or student teacher-level. that’s fresh.

(2) i finally figured out the calc proof i’ve been working on since last monday! a two page long proof, finished a half an hour before i had to leave for class. man, that was one glorious proof, once i figured it out.

(3) the chuck season premiere was tonight! for my and your reference, my shows for this year are as follows: the office, 30 rock, pushing daisies, house, bones, ncis, and chuck. so the only premieres i have left are pushing daisies on wednesday and 30 rock on october 30th. six hours of tv a week. phew!

(4) i think i’m going to spend tomorrow afternoon tagging my pre-wordpress and textpattern posts. but there are 781 of said posts, so it may take a few days. wish me luck!

i have completely updated my portfolio. exciting stuff.

basically, i tried to put all the posts in there that have anything to do with websites i’ve designed or logos i’ve made.

i also had to deal with the downloadable template situation. if you weren’t around here in 2004-2006, i used to design website templates available for the public to download. i used a php program called the crappymatic that would customize my templates to fit the user. i had totally forgotten about in 2007 and somehow i managed to delete a crucial php file. so for a year or so my templates have been doing nothing, sitting useless in my portfolio without even previews. that’s all fixed now. you can look at the templates—some have live previews, others have full size screen shots—but you can’t download them.

so that’s pretty much it. let me know if you see anything wonky going on.

i’ve updated the about page, finally. i’ve been meaning to do that for awhile.

i was adding some music to my about page when i realized most of the stuff written there is fairly outdated. so it’s that time again, time for you guys to ask me questions! anything you want to know. i’ll answer every single one and later this week i’ll add the ones i liked the best to the about page.

these are the questions people came up with two years ago:
- “when did you first start dying your hair?”
- “why do you write with no caps?”
- “what is your favourite mode of transportation?”
- “when did you begin designing websites?”

so start asking!

AAANNNNNDDDDD, imaclanni.com looks fantastic in all browsers on all computers!

that took way longer than it should have. anyway, i figured out that ie really despises negative margins, so i had to overhaul most of the layout to get rid of them and work around that fact. but it worked out, so i suppose it was worth it. though it’s not like i have anything else to do right now, i have to wait for megan to get out of class so i can get in the room. i’m just sitting in the computer lab at the union being all brilliant (grabbed a pc right next to a mac so i could do a simulogin and two-hand it). same ol’ same ol’. not.

reasons for making a new layout:
- the old one was falling apart (coding-wise)
- many plugins i wished to implement were incompatible with my previous layout
- i needed something more professional

things i like about this new layout:
- it’s simple
- it uses minimal images (loads faster)
- it works with all my plugins
- the sidebar is on top
- it uses my new favorite font, lucida grande
- the post meta info. is on the side of the entries
- the unordered link lists have cool hovers
- i was able to install threaded comments! (more on that below)

what i need from windows users:
i would really appreciate some screenshots of the site on a pc, in both firefox and internet explorer. i have absolutely no idea if the site looks okay or not, and i really want to know.

about the new commenting system:
imaclanni.com now has threaded comments! that means instead of responding to a comment at the end of the list, you can now directly reply to a specific comment by hitting “reply” at the end of said post. you can even reply to a reply. it’s really nifty, and it makes communicating easier for us all. let me know if you run into any trubs with it, i’ll help you out.

as you can tell in the screenshots, i’ve been working on a new site design since mid-october, and i finally have it the way i want it. the coding is going to be crazy since i’m going to have a lot of different kinds of positioning, but that’s not what this post is about.

i can’t decide on a color! so i’d appreciate it if you helped me out by commenting with the number of the one you like the best. thanks!

i’m really itching to redesign the site. before i start, i wanted to ask and see if anyone had any ideas of new features i should add, or thing i should get rid of. any feedback is really fantastic.
