i saw hairspray with stabby last night after work. it’s was really excellent, i’m such a sucker for musicals, especially funny ones (i bought chicago on dvd today at record archive). it was also adorable. we sang a few of the songs from it in chorus, which made watching it even more awesome.

thanks to a livejournal friend, i now own “mink car” by they might be giants! so now i have 12/13 of their full-length studio albums (i still need “long tall weekend,” so if you have it, let me know). i’ve been listening to it all day and it’s completely awesome. it’s generally not a favorite among fans, but i love it. my favorite songs so far: “man, it’s so loud in here,” “wicked little critta,” “she thinks she’s edith head,” and “working undercover for the man.”

liz is home! she brought me back a giant manatee stuffed animal named charlie. i’ll post a photo of him when liz gives me my camera back (which may never happen, actually).

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS MAKE MY HEART PALPITATE. SRSLY.

<3

so my dad, curls, and i went to the german house tonight and saw tmbg perform! it was basically the best concert i have ever been to. why? i'll tell you:

(1) there was no moshing, unlike the concerts i usually go to. this meant the show ended with both of my shoes still on my feet.

(2) the opener was only slightly boring, mostly because he dj'd for 45 minutes straight to some very repetitive music.

(3) they played almost all of my favorite songs: dr. worm, experimental film, she's an angel, particle man, istanbul (not constantinople), meet james ensor, ana ng, birdhouse in your soul, why does the sun shine?, the famous polka, fingertips, twisting, new york city, we're the replacements, memo to human resources. i'm sad that they didn't play "i should be allowed to think" though, because that's my current most favorite song. but i could care less, because as you can see, they played a lot of songs (2 straight hours worth).

(4) they also played a lot of songs from their new album, the else, which comes out on the 15th on itunes only (the regular release is a month later). i really liked the songs i heard so i’m psyched for tuesday.

(5) i got a t-shirt, and my dad got one for liz. i couldn’t decide which of the two i liked better, so liz and i will probably share (share? whoa, who shares anymore?).

(6) IT WAS FRIGGIN’ THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS. HOW CAN THAT NOT BE AN AMAZING SHOW?

EDIT: sorry, no (2)

(1) we had 16 kids at after school today. considering that on thursdays we usually have 36, this was quite nice. we couldn’t play any real gym games (i.e. dodgeball) because we only had 8 kids that went in the gym. instead we played a mini game of soccer, four on four, and some lariche (every man for himself dodgeball). then we had free time, and one of the girls beat the all-time jump rope record (which was currently held by a 4th grader with 474 jumps) by doing 492 jumps. quite amazing.

(3) HAS BEEN MOVED TO THIS POST AS OF 09/2008.

(4) speaking of photos, this photo of hoover on flickr is probably the most popular photo i’ve taken. 7 people have favorited it, and there are 6 comments. that’s pretty cool. it’s one of my most favorite photos of hoover. i am glad i caught it on camera, sun basking is aways cute.

(5) did you know that you can say ’shit’ on the radio? i was listening to “rocking the suburbs” by ben folds on BER (90.5) and that song has the word in it like 6 times. although they did fade out the f-word, which i appreciated.

(6) THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS IS PERFORMING IN ROCHESTER ON FRIDAY AT THE GERMAN HOUSE.

help

you guys know that song from that dunkin’ donuts commercial that goes like, “it’s like one million degrees” a few times and stuff? anyone know who it’s by? it sounds so much like they might be giants but i can’t figure it out.

update: now that i think about it, all the new dunkin’ donuts commercials have music that sounds like it could have been done by tmbg, like the pleather song, and the karate one. peculiar.
